A fnal interview Seeing the Blossom.

The Brie was to obtain the transcript rom a amousinterview and consider ways to express the content.

Dennis Potters nal interview with Melvyn Bragg wasrecorded three months be ore he died o pancreatic cancer.Watching the interview created a challenge: how to conveythe emotion, and the pain, o a man con ronted with death.

Throughout the 67 minutes there are requent pauseswhere Potter drinks rom a fask o liquid morphine. Witha cigarette in one hand and a glass o champagne in theother, Potter dissects his li e and career.

Without watching the interview I wanted the reader tounderstand how the reality o his impending death isrein orced with sharp and sudden moments o pain thatgradually become more requent and lasting towards theend o the interview. In essence youre watching a battlebetween an incredibly creative and able minded writer and aman crippled by the e ects o the end stages o cancer.

This book is a tribute to Dennis Potters li e and contains asmall selection o his work. The nal chapter o the book isa typeset transcript o the interview, which shows a physicaldeterioration throughout the conversation, a cigarettelike burns slowly eats away at the fuidity o the dialogue, eventually drawing the interview to a close.

    Haynes Car ManualTypographic Manual.

This project was a personal response to the Haynestypographic manual. The greasy ngerprints le t byprevious owners became much more descriptive thanthe instructions themselves. In response to the brie Icreated an identical hand bound version with an accuratetranslation o the text set in ngerprints; commenting onthe rustration involved with trying to understand thisdated language. The more you interact with the page and

ollow the instructions with your nger, the clearer thein ormation becomes.

    Shortlisted.

A collaborative project with Scottish Opera in order todesign their under 26 campaign or the show la bohme. The brie was to advertise a modern adaptation o aclassic opera attracting a new audience

My aim was to accentuate the industrial and grittyside o this particular version, drawing on the large,

overpowering structures o downtown New York torepresent the L and B o La Bohme.

The typographic poster was intended to steer awayrom the stereotypes o the traditional opera and act

as a metaphor or the overwhelming sensation oexperiencing your rst live per ormance.

This became a research project to look at the slipperynature o the word Cra t. A selection o essays, incontrast with a collection o personal opinions, observethe diversity o the word and its many interpretations.

The method and time spent creating these booklets ismeant to mirror the content. The essays are hand set inthree individual booklets using a stock that I elt bestrefected the content o the essay. The Booklets were
