Campaign Co-Chairs are Barry and Mary Bruner, Tom and Jean Farner, and Matt and Peggy Greteman. St. Anthony welcomes the support and par- ticipation in this campaign of the regional commu- nity, as well as individuals and businesses in nu- merous neighboring counties. In the next few months, St. Anthony representatives will reach out to individuals and businesses across the region to answer questions and discuss opportunities to donate. Several members of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration planned to attend the an- nouncement event; however, inclement weather made them unable to attend the gathering. Ed Smith read a letter from Sister Helen Elsbernd, FSPA, Honorary Co-Chair. Elsbernd wrote, We are pleased to give the St. Anthony Foun- dation a cornerstone gift of $2.5 million to build a cancer center that will bring health, healing and hope to the many individuals and families facing cancer. Elsbernd continued, We pray that our gift will help catalyze this very important campaign in bringing people together to provide the people, equipment and environment for patients in west central Iowa. St. Anthony Regional Hospital Board of Di- rectors and other committee members have been in the planning stages of this center for the past three years. St. Anthony Hospital Board member, West-side resident Peggy White, shared, I think we have a great need for this project in our community, as ev- eryone has been touched by cancer one way or another; family or friends. I believe this is the right time. If we dont do it now, when will we do it? St. Anthony grateful to Franciscan Sisters She continued, I think this is a great project for the community and for the region, and we are really looking forward to the end results. During the ceremony, Radiation Oncologist Dr. Randal Hess commented on the new center and its importance, St. Anthony has provided excel- lent medical care and services to this community and surrounding communities. St. Anthonys con- tinues to support the medical art of healing; treat- ing not just the patient, but the family. Not only the medical condition, but servicing the needs emo- tionally and spiritually of our patients. This can- not happen without support. He continued, If you look at St. Anthonys mission statement, you will read about hope, heal- ing and ministry. These things dont happen with- out core concepts of respect, diligence, compas- sion, responsibility and excellence. While Dr. Hess participated in the planning of the new center over the last three years, he said, I have never seen such ownership of responsibility for the stewardship and the use of funds and re- spect from where those funds come from; the spirit from which they were donated. St. Anthonys does not embark on its projects lightly. There is signifi- cant due diligence in the assessment of need and the research and solutions to the planning and the implementation of those solutions; with the em- phasis of not only solving the needs of the now but the needs for the future; the commitment to build an enduring legacy that will serve the needs of future generations.
