2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation. So this is a great time to be in Geneva, one of the most important historic sites of this religious movement and every corner of the city has its own story to tell. At the International Museum of the Reformation B , paintings, books and manuscripts retrace the history of Protestantism. The Reformation Wall 4* in the Bastions Park pays tribute to the movement's four most iconic figures: Jean Calvin, Guillaume Farel, Théodore de Bèze and John Knox. Geneva isn't just the capital of diplomacy and high-end watchmaking, it's also a foodie's dream. Home to a large number of international organizations, Geneva is a key centre for peace and diplomacy. The famous "spirit of Geneva" is still very much alive through-out the city, but the Broken Chair 6 in the Place des Nations is without doubt the location where the city's humanist spirit is most tangible. Made entirely of wood and standing 12 metres high, this imposing sculpture was created in 1997 by Daniel Berset as a tribute to the victims of anti-personnel mines. It sits just a stone's throw from the Palais des Nations 5* , the European head-quarters of the United Nations, which is definitely worth a guided tour. The Palais has thousands of secrets just waiting to be revealed, and be sure not to miss the extraordinary ceiling in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room.
