Referee

Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.)

Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referee’s decision

20

The referee correctly did not award a penalty to Turkey. A Turkish forwardreceived a small contact with an El Salvadorian defender and fell with much delayand too easily. A yellow card for dive would have been even possible, but notmandatory.

83

Another penalty appeal by Turkey, also this time the Brazilian referee waved play-on. The El Salvadorian defender touched both, ball and opponent. It was rather apenalty than nothing, but in the end it is an acceptable call and no crucial mistake. As Turkey had already led 3:0 at this point of time, it was more or less irrelevant.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight thereferee’s tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teamsand players, teamwork etc.).Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences!

Positive Points

1.Very good foul detection. He had a suitable feeling for what was a foul and whatwas nothing. The referee stayed very attentive until the end and detected nearlyevery infringement.

2.His overall card management was good. He detected the first more serious fouland immediately punished it with a deserved caution. Doing that he set a clear line that was understandable for the players.

3.Good dealing with the players. He explained his decisions to them with gesturesand communication. He was respected.

4. In the end adequate dealing with situations happening in the penalty area.

Points for Improvement

1.

Despite his good card management, one of the issued bookings was wrong. ElSalvadorian Hernández was booked (65’) without clear reason. He obviouslythought to have detected a foul with studs-up (the Turkish player also needed

treatment), but it was neither an intentional nor a reckless foul. -0.1 for thatleading to 8.3.

2.

Whistle language. He had no consistent line in blowing the whistle, some longer whistles for small infringements and smaller ones for more serious infringements. He can support his appearance and decision taking on the pitch by improvingthat.
