THANKSGIVING DAY MASS

On Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, we will celebrate our traditional Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 AM

(Bilingual). We invite all of you to come with your families to give thanks for the many blessings God gives us. During the Mass, we will also bless the bread and wine, which you will partake in your family dinner. Please join us!

Due to this holiday the Parish Office will be closed

on Thursday, November 26th & Friday, November 27th.

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Dear Sacred Heart Church Family, I remember one day a few years ago, while I was filling up my gas tank, I was approached by a gentleman that I imme-diately judged as needy. “Oh God, he’s going to ask me for money,” I thought to myself. Well, the “Oh God,” was a prayer heard by the Lord and immediately I was transported to my college days when I would volunteer at the local soup kitchen. The Franciscan brothers who worked there always said, “Don’t just give money, ask the person his or her name. This will help you humanize them.” As the gentleman approached, I took a deep breath and sure enough he asked, “Hello, I wonder if you could help me out?” I said, “Sure, but may I ask your name? My name is Gilbert.” The gentleman straightened up and in a strong voice said, “My name is Charles Jones, Korean war veteran of the U. S. Army, sir.” I was seized with compassion. My father was a Korean war veteran! All of a sudden, this per-son who I had prejudged as a nuisance, became a human being who reminded me of my own father. I gave him whatever I had, shared with him that I was proud to have met him and thanked him for his service to our country and that my father was also a veteran. He looked down and said, “You know, I haven’t always been like this.” I said, “I know.” He thanked me and walked away. This interaction has stayed with me and is a reminder to me that when I see a person in need that this person has a story. It is a reminder to me that I am called by Our Lord Jesus Christ to see past the exterior and remember that all human beings are my brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles. Jesus reminds us all that if we call our-selves His disciples then we are called to love and serve each other the way He did when He walked the Earth. Jesus offers a stern warning that we will be called to ac-count when our time on Earth is done. Loving God means loving our neighbor. Love as defined by the gratuitous gift of self as demonstrated by Jesus on the cross. Our life of grace and our very salvation depend on our constant con-version more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ. It is a process that takes a lifetime and costs us everything. Jesus demands nothing less. Jesus warns us not to deceive our-selves. Not loving our neighbor in acts of service means not loving God Himself. I am grateful to Charles Jones, homeless and poor, who helped to open my eyes and my heart. I thank God for al-lowing me to meet him, one of my teachers on my journey of faith who showed me another aspect of God’s love that I would not have known otherwise. I now intentionally pray, “Come Lord Jesus! Or Come Holy Spirit!” whenever I am approached by a stranger with the anticipation that God wants to show me an aspect of Himself through him or her. Solemnidad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo

Estimada Familia de la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón, Recuerdo que un día, hace unos años, mientras llenaba mi tan-que de gasolina, me abordó un hombre que inmediatamente juzgué como necesitado. "Ay Dios! sé que me va a pedir dine-ro", pensé en mi mente. "Ay Dios!", se hizo una oración escu-chada por nuestro Señor e inmediatamente recordé mi tiempo en la universidad cuando trabajaba como voluntario en el co-medor público en nuestra comunidad. Los hermanos francisca-nos que trabajaban allí siempre decían: "No sólo den limosna, pregúntele a la persona su nombre. Esto te ayudará a humani-zarlos". Cuando el caballero se acercó, tomé aire y seguro que me pre-guntó: "Hola. Podrías ayudarme?" Le dije: "Claro, pero ¿puedo preguntarle su nombre? Me llamo Gilbert. El hombre se ende-rezó y con voz fuerte dijo: "Me llamo Charles Jones, veterano de guerra coreano del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, señor". Me acomparon con compasión. ¡Mi padre era un veterano de guerra coreano! De repente, esta persona a la que había pensa-do una molestia, se convirtió en un ser humano que me recor-daba a mi propio padre. Le di lo que tenía, compartí con él que estaba orgulloso de ha-berlo conocido y le agradeé su servicio a nuestro país y que mi padre también era un veterano. Miró hacia abajo y dijo: "Sabes, no siempre he vivido así". Le dije, "Yo lo sé". Me dio las gra-cias y se fue. Esta interacción se ha quedado conmigo y es un recordatorio para mí que cuando veo a una persona necesitada que esta per-sona tiene una historia. Es un recordatorio para mí que soy llamado por Nuestro Señor Jesucristo para ver más allá del exterior y recordar que todos los seres humanos son mis her-manos y hermanas, madres y padres, tías y tíos. Jesús nos re-cuerda a todos que si nos llamamos Sus discípulos, entonces estamos llamados a amarnos y servirnos unos a otros de la ma-nera en que lo hizo cuando caminaba por la Tierra. Jesús ofrece una severa advertencia de que seremos llamados a dar cuenta cuando termine nuestro tiempo en la Tierra. Amar a Dios significa amar a nuestro prójimo. Amor que se define por el don gratuito de sí mismo como lo demuestra Jesús en la cruz. Nuestra vida de gracia y nuestra propia salvación depen-den de nuestra conversión constante cada vez más en la seme-janza de Jesucristo. Es un proceso que nos toma toda la vida y nos cuesta todo. Jesús no exige nada menos. Jesús nos advierte que no nos engañemos a nosotros mismos. No amar a nuestro prójimo en actos de servicio significa no amar a Dios. Estoy agradecido a Charles Jones, desamparado y pobre, que me ayudó a abrir mis ojos y mi corazón. Doy gracias a Dios por permitirme conocerlo, uno de mis maestros en mi camino de fe que me mostró otro aspecto del amor de Dios que de otra manera no hubiera conocido. Ahora rezo intencionalmente, "¡Ven Señor Jesús! ¡O Ven Espíritu Santo!" cada vez que un extranjero se me acerca. Ahora anticipo que Dios quiere mos-trarme un aspecto de Sí mismo a través de él o ella. ¡Dios los bendiga a todos! P. Gilbert
