September 7th Memorandum Message from Mme Pascale Bernier : Rentrée scolaire L’année scolaire 2018-2019 vient de débuter. Il me semble le moment opportun de rappeler le rôle de l’école du système d’éducation publique. Le School Act qui régit le bon fonctionnement de toutes les écoles de la province, offre à cet effet, une excellente définition de notre mission. School Act [RSBC 1996] CHAPTER 412 Preamble WHEREAS it is the goal of a democratic society to ensure that all its members receive an education that enables them to become literate, personally fulfilled and publicly useful, thereby increasing the strength and contributions to the health and stability of that society; AND WHEREAS the purpose of the British Columbia school system is to enable all learners to become literate, to develop their individual potential and to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to a healthy, democratic and pluralistic society and a prosperous and sustainable economy; Il est essentiel d’insister que notre rôle en tant que membre du service public est de rejoindre les enfants et toutes les familles. Nous devons permettre à tous les élèves d’intégrer la société civique de la province et du Canada à la fin de leur cursus et de leur permettre de l’enrichir et d’y jouer un rôle. 1 École Victor-Brodeur Pascale Bernier, directrice Tél. September 7th Memorandum

Message from Mme Pascale Bernier :

Rentrée scolaire L’année scolaire 2018-2019 vient de débuter. Il me semble le moment opportun de rappeler le rôle de l’école du système d’éducation publique. Le School Act qui régit le bon fonctionnement de toutes les écoles de la province, offre à cet effet, une excellente définition de notre mission.

School Act [RSBC 1996] CHAPTER 412

Preamble WHEREAS it is the goal of a democratic society to ensure that all its members receive an education that enables them to become literate, personally fulfilled and publicly useful, thereby increasing the strength and contributions to the health and stability of that society; AND WHEREAS the purpose of the British Columbia school system is to enable all learners to become literate, to develop their individual potential and to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to a healthy, democratic and pluralistic society and a prosperous and sustainable economy; Il est essentiel d’insister que notre rôle en tant que membre du service public est de rejoindre les enfants et toutes les familles. Nous devons permettre à tous les élèves d’intégrer la société civique de la province et du Canada à la fin de leur cursus et de leur permettre de l’enrichir et d’y jouer un rôle.

Parent-teacher relationship School Act also indicates the right that each parent has, to be informed of his children’s progress at all times. Communications will be sent regularly, though emails (Profil de l’apprenant/Portfolio). Parents can also always ask for specific information or more details if they wish. They are to contact the teachers directly by email first, the Administration can not be involved or go forward if this first step hasn't been followed. Please know that the CSF strongly encourages families-teachers collaboration at all times.

Please note First Nations If your family has an Aboriginal heritage, your child has the opportunity to receive additional support at school, towards academic, cultural or counselling services. Please contact your child’s teacher and a meeting will be arranged with the administration team to decide which of the three options is best suited for him or her.

Assistance Projet Lien Each year, the Ministry of Education is giving school districts throughout the province a funding lift to support families in need. The CSF has decided to provide two options within the program : Resto-scolaire meals or after school homework help. If you currently in need of financial assistance, please contact your child’s teacher to be part of the program.

Absences & late arrivals Please read the attached document regarding procedures and policies for your children’s attendance.

Did you know? The PAC’s “Comité urgence” manage the earthquake readiness plan for both school sites. The $10 requested from each student at the start of the year is to keep the emergency supply containers stocked. If you haven’t already done so, please make your cheque out to “École Victor-Brodeur”.
