GBPIET, Pauri, is an Engineering Institute
established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh
in 1989 for imparting Engineering education and
promoting technological environment in Garhwal
region, the state and country. It started its first
academic session from 1991-92 and since then
the institute has always been a pioneer in solving
practical problems and priorities of present
scenario of the region. As a panacea, it aims at
shaping engineers, whose number is at par with
its counterparts anywhere in the country. The
students of GBPIET have already made a mark
for themselves in prestigious organizations and
reputed institutes in India & abroad. Presently,
the institute is an Autonomous Institute of the
Government of Uttarakhand, affiliated to the
Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun since
academic year 2006-07.
The Department of Civil Engineering, in 16th year
of its establishment, has come a long way
developing along modern lines by laying
emphasis upon exploration and analysis of state-
of-the-art issues across the spectrum in domain.
Currently, the Department offers one
Undergraduate degree programs in Civil
Engineering and two Full-time M.Tech. program
in Infrastructure and Geotechnical Engineering.
Recently, Civil Engineering Department is also
approved to be a QIP center. The Department
has highly educated and well experienced faculty
members who endeavour to produce finest
engineers, contributing in their capacity to the
nation.

Soil–Structure Interaction (SSI) is a topic of
significant importance in the solution of problems
in geotechnical engineering. Conventional
techniques are not sufficient to completely
understand the mechanism and model the
challenging behavior at the interfaces and joints
prevalent in most structural and foundation
systems. Due to complexities involved in many
geotechnical problems, conventional procedures
that are based on assumption of the linear
elastic and isotropic nature of materials, and limit
equilibrium procedures are found to be
inaccurate. Hence, we need to use modern
computer-oriented procedures to assimilate
factors, such as in-situ stress, stress path,
volume change, discontinuities and
microcracking (initial and induced), strain
softening, and liquefaction, which are not
accounted for in conventional methods.The
course is inter-disciplinary in nature and
isplanned in a way so that it starts with
fundamentalconcepts and focuses on hands-on
training in modelling of soil-structure interaction.
Fundamentals of Soil–structure interaction
Brief about Soil dynamics, Liquefaction and
Effect of coupled behavior
Convential solutions for evaluation of soil
properties and Non-linear behaviour
Modelling issues of soil-foundation-structure
system and various numerical techniques
Various constitutive models for soils
Hands on training in FEM software with
modeling of variety of real life problems
