Easter Hat Making & Parade….Hippity Hop Easter Hat Making - Wednesday 28th March Easter Hat Parade - Thursday 29th March at 2.15pm. Parents, grandparents and family friends are invited to help decorate the students’ hats and watch our Easter Hat Parade. Students Need - a hat to decorate, Easter “bits and pieces”. The “dollar shops’ and “Spotlight” always have cheap, Easter decorations. Why Read At Home? I found this highly convincing graphic that shows the positive outcomes of reading at home nightly. Please encourage your child to read nightly to an adult but remember it is equally beneficial for parents to read to their children, which is a great way to vary your nightly routine.

Text Book Parent Contribution This week you will have received an invoice for the outstanding money owing for your child’s/children’s textbooks. Thank you to the many families who have already paid for their child’s textbooks. The parent contribution is $25 per child which can be paid in full or $5 per week until fully paid. Coles Sports Tokens Let’s save our Coles tokens and please encourage your friends and family to save them for us! Learning with Miss T - Weeks 6 & 7 Last week we commenced learning how to write persuasive arguments. On Tuesday the students’ learning goal was to select a robotic toy and write a convincing email why it was the best. The toys they could select from included BB8, R2D2, Lightning McQueen or Cozmo. Amazingly everyone selected Cozmo. On Wednesday the students’ learning goal was to write a convincing letter about what part of their “Ordinary Day” was the best. This activity was based on the book “Ordinary Day” by Rod Clement. This week they will write a persuasive text about “If Kids Ruled the World” based on the book “If Kids Ruled the World” by Leo & Diane Dillon. Also they will use the book “The Day The Crayons Quit” to write a convincing text about the best crayon. Our sound for last week was ie, igh, y words and this week it is ee, ea, ey, ie words. Last week I found most students didn’t achieve 100% in their spelling test so we need to spend more time on Spelling this week. Please encourage your child to learn and spell their spelling words to you nightly. In Maths some groups explored subtraction with trading, multiplication and multiplying decimals by ten and hundred. This week some groups we will explore division and dividing decimals by ten and hundred. Also this week, time will be devoted to trying to achieve our personal Maths goal which is related to the times tables. STEM - Coding - Robotics - Maker Program Week 5 - The students’ learning goal was to create a 3D model of either our school in 1910 or the Upper Lansdowne Hall in 1926. Each student achieved their goal and created an awesome 3D model. Hopefully this week we “green screen” our models using the Doink app and then Seesaw you your child’s brilliant work. Week 6 - The students’ learning goal was to work collaboratively using the Lego WeDo2 kits and create a moving device. Wow….the room was a buzz with collaborative learners, who were fully engaged and created amazing devices. Some students filmed their work and Seesawed to their parents. Hopefully this week every one will film their models and Seesaw it home. Week 7 - Our STEM project is to create a hang glider that flies the furthest.

Learning with Mrs Powell - Weeks 6 & 7 Week 6: Last week we studied the text “Amelia Ellicott’s Garden”. Each day, the students wrote some great descriptive writing in their responding tasks. For maths we focussed on multiplication and division (grouping and sharing). The students had fun doing hands on activities creating groups of objects to work out the problem. Week 7: This week we are studying the text “John Brown, Rose and the Midnight Cat”. So far the students have made connections to the characters and are using new words to describe them eg. Selfish, stubborn. Maths: This week we are focusing on addition and subtraction problems. Classroom layout: Our classroom set up and routine is working really well and the students are engaged in learning tasks. The students will continue using the Seesaw App to post their work, to enable you to develop a greater understanding of their learning. Our new home reader program started this week. Please remember to read newest book first and return folder daily for use in class. Reminder - Harmony Day 21 March 2018 This celebrates “everyone belongs” and students are asked to wear orange. The students will participate in Harmony Day activities and our class will study the text “I’m an Australian Too” to celebrate diversity.




Lego WeDo 2

Last Friday Adrian, our generator electrician, led a very informative discussion about the properties of a circle, direction and the weather. The children discussed the compass points, wind and synoptic weather charts. Later we discovered Adrian is an enthusiastic hang glider which has inspired us to make hang gliders in this week’s STEM lesson.
