CHRISTOPHE TEILLOL – LYCEE VAUCANSON : 3
Quelques mots transparents.
CHRISTOPHE TEILLOL – LYCEE VAUCANSON : 4
ETAPE 1
E.O. Travail par groupe de deux :
Découverte de l’image par moitié 1 et 2.
The document is inspired from a film poster. In
the background, we can see Big Ben, so the scene
takes place in London. Big Ben is hidden by the
mist. The clothes that the main character is
wearing seemø to be old-fashionED. The right
half of his face has a cracked skin. The left part
has a smooth skin. His hair is well-combed on the
right side and dishevelled on the other. We can
say that there is a gothic / dark / creepy / gloomy
atmosphere because there IS a graveyard,
crosses, the moonlight, and cobwebs. The scene
takes place in the Victorian period.
The purpose of the picture is to make people
watch the movie.

ETAPE 2
E.O.
(E.E.)
Travail commun avec utilisation du tableau et
rétroprojecteur :
Création d’une Mind Map « how to express
hypotheses » avec l’aide de leur HW.
The man might be a werewolf.
It is possible that he is an aristocrat.
We can suppose it happened a long time ago.

ETAPE 2
C.O. Travail en classe entière :
Ecoutes (visionnages) Globales (1 à 2),
Emission d’hypothèses,
Elucidation de groupe.
The settings make the city look terrifying, AS in a

C.O.
E.E.

First Excerpt
An exclamation of horror broke from the painter’s lips as
he saw in the dim light the hideous face on the canvas grinning
at him. There was something in its expression that filled
him with disgust and loathing. Good heavens! it was Dorian
Gray’s own face that he was looking at! The horror, whatever
it was, had not yet entirely spoiled that marvellous beauty.
There was still some gold in the thinning hair and some scarlet
on the sensual mouth. The sodden eyes had kept something
of the loveliness of their blue, the noble curves had not yet
CHRISTOPHE TEILLOL – LYCEE VAUCANSON : 21
completely passed away from chiselled nostrils and from plastic
throat. Yes, it was Dorian himself. But who had done it?
He seemed to recognize his own brushwork, and the frame
was his own design. The idea was monstrous, yet he felt afraid.
He seized the lighted candle, and held it to the picture. In
the left-hand corner was his own name, traced in long letters
of bright vermilion.

Document 5 – 2ème extrait de l’œuvre originale.
Second extract
It was better not to think of the past. Nothing could change that. He had to think of himself, and of his own future.
James Vane was hidden in a nameless grave in Selby churchyard. Alan Campbell had shot himself one night in his
laboratory, but had not revealed the secret that he had been forced to know. The excitement, over Basil Hallward’s
disappearance would soon pass away. It was already disappearing. He was perfectly safe there. Nor, indeed, was it the
death of Basil Hallward that weighed most upon his mind.
It was the living death of his own soul that troubled him!!!!!! Basil had painted the portrait that had marred his life.
He could not forgive him that. It was the portrait that had done everything. Basil had said things to him that were
unbearable, and that he had yet borne with patience.
The murder had been simply the madness of a moment. As for Alan Campbell, his suicide had been his own act. He
had chosen to do it. It was nothing to him.
A new life! - That was what he wanted. - That was what he was waiting for. Surely, he had begun it already. He had
spared one innocent thing, at any rate. He would never again tempt innocence. He would be good.
As he thought of Hetty Merton, he began to wonder if the portrait in the locked room in the attic had changed. Surely
it was not still so horrible as it had been? Perhaps if his life became pure, he would be able to expel every sign of evil
passion from the face.
Perhaps the signs of evil had already gone away. He would go and look.
