STemozolomide

Visual field deterioration: case reportA 54-year-old woman developed visual field deterioration

during treatment with temozolomide. The woman, who underwent surgery for recurrent

oligodendroglioma, developed right sided visual loss withtemporal hemianopia on her second postoperative day. Sevenmonths later, after fractionated radiotherapy and concomitantdaily temozolomide and during monthly adjuvanttemozolomide, her right visual field defect became concentric[route, dosage and duration of treatment to reaction onset notstated]. Her visual evoked potentials revealed markedlyincreased P100 latency, mainly on her right side.

Temozolomide was withdrawn. Prednisolone treatment wasnot effective. Four months later, examination revealed slightimprovement of her ocular symptoms and partial recovery ofher visual evoked potential abnormalities.

Author comment: "The incidence of late neurocognitivedeficits related to TMZ [temozolomide] is low. In rare casesvisual disturbances have been reported."Koeppen S, et al.
