Like vs would like

Page 2: Inglese (1)

• The verb to like (pleasure) is built in English in the following way. The person to which it likes something or someone is the subject of like, what likes it is the complement object. When the verb to like is followed by another verb, this in Italian you/he/she is put to the endless one. In English you/he/she can have put in the .ing form or to the endless one, according to the circumstance. • You/he/she is put in the .ing form when it expresses in general an

action, usually when endless Italian could be replaced by a noun. • If the verb expresses an action that happens in a particular

circumstance, he/she is preferred to use the endless (with to) one. • You also uses the endless one when we want to express anything that

necessarily likes not us to do, but that we do because we hold him/it correct.

• The conditional one of like is used in the meaning of I would want and you/he/she is always followed by the endless one with to. You/he/she is followed by the endless past when he/she is wanted to express regret.
