There are two product variants in this family – n-Link™ (hosted mode) and WiSeConnect™ (embedded mode). WiSeConnect variant has integrated wireless stacks, profiles and networking stack running on the internal processor, however, in n-Link variant all the stacks and profile run on the host processor. Redpines SoCs are perfect for devices with batteries, pro- longing battery life by minimizing power consumption. Tests from Tolly run in an RF chamber included Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) scenarios and benchmarked power consumption in Wi-Fi Standby Associated Mode, while running a secure TCP stack (with and without co-channel traffic) and in a multi-protocol scenario using BLE. The RS9116 beats its competitors in every aspect, for example with only 90 uA in Cisco Aironet AP Mode. These modules have integrated baseband processor with calibration memory, RF transceiver, high-power amplifier, balun, T/R switch and flash memory. They provide a transmit power of up to 20 dBm with integrated PA and receive sensitivity as low as -104 dBm. These certified modules consume ultra-low power with multiple power modes while operating over a single supply of 2,1 to 3,6 V or 1,85 V. They are available in various packages with and without antenna options. Multi-protocol wireless connectivity with low power and high security

Redpine Signals’ RS9116 family of SoCs and modules provides a comprehensive multi-protocol wireless connectivity

solution including 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and dual-Mode Bluetooth® 5. There are two product variants in

this family – n-Link™ (hosted mode) and WiSeConnect™ (embedded mode). WiSeConnect variant has integrated wireless

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The ever-growing Internet of Things (IoT) relies heavily on battery power. Unlike mobile phones and tablets, IoT devices such as doorbells, smart locks and remote sensors cannot easily be recharged. Other devices like wearables have very small battery sizes imposing tighter power constraints. Thus, prolonging battery life by minimizing power consumption becomes a critical concern in IoT. Redpine Signals commissioned Tolly to evaluate two of their IoT SoCs, the RS9116 and the RS14100 and compare their power consumption with competing IoT offerings from Cypress Semiconductor, Qualcomm Technologies and Texas Instruments. Tests included Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) scenarios and benchmarked power consumption in Wi-Fi Standby Associated Mode, while running a secure TCP stack (with and without co-channel traffic) and in a multi-protocol scenario using BLE.
