FRANKFURT

DAY 1Tuesday 15 September

Frankfurt, a central German city on the river Main, is a major financial and transport hub that’s also home to the European Central Bank. It’s the birthplace of famed writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose former home is now the Goethe House Museum. Like much of the city, the museum was damaged during World War II and later rebuilt. The mild weather in Frankfurt during September is lovely – it’s the perfect time to visit with temperatures ranging between 12 and 21 °C.

We will be welcomed with cocktails at one of the most luxurious hotels in Frankfurt, Villa Kennedy. The hotel is located on the south bank of the river Main, in a green and lush neighbourhood near the famed museum district and St Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Villa Kennedy, once a stately home, has been transformed with an internal courtyard, perfect for al fresco dining.

VILLA KENNEDY

Vibrant Villa Kennedy presides over Frankfurt’s verdant south bank, a stately family home turned intimate hotel. In leafy Sachsenhausen, historic Villa Kennedy is a city centre hotel with a secret: an enchanting internal courtyard and Italian restaurant, perfectly placed for al fresco dining, drinking and company.

From here, explore Frankfurt’s famed museum quarter and St Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Venture out of the city to the Rheinhessen winelands. Or stay in the surrounds of Villa Kennedy’s Neo-Gothic beauty, tranquil gardens and sun-filled spa.

DAY 2Wednesday 16 September

We will start the morning with a VIP tour of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst. One of the world’s most important contemporary art institutions, this architecturally spectacular museum plays a vital social and cultural role in Frankfurt. With a collection of over 5,000 paintings, sculptures, film, photography and performance art, the museum has works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and Joseph Beuys, to name a few. After lunch and a walking tour that takes in New Frankfurt Old Town offering magnificent views of the city skyline, we head to our second destination. Hannover, Germany’s atmospheric old town, is filled with reconstructed half-timbered buildings, terrace cafes and Baroque gardens. As you will see, this lively city has much more to offer than its industrial reputation might suggest.

HANNOVERKASTENS HOTEL LUISENHOF

For generations, the five-star superior Kastens Hotel Luisenhof has stood for tradition combined with state-of-the-art comfort.

The central train station and the elegant Luisenstraße are just a stone’s throw away from the hotel.

DAY 3Thursday 17 September

In the morning we will be given a VIP guided tour of the Sprengel Museum, regarded as one of the most important museums of 20th and 21st century art. With its focus on German Expressionism and French Modernism, the collection has important works by Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Max Beckmann, Max Ernst, Paul Klee and Emil Nolde. A special attraction at the museum are its rooms designed by artists, including reconstructions of the legendary Merzbau by Kurt Schwitters and the light rooms of James Turrell.

Then we move on to Derneberg for a tour at the Hall Art Foundation | Schloss Derneburg Museum, which was originally a fortified castle. For several centuries the castle was a monastery, then a residence for the Anglo-Hanoverian Munster family. From 1976 the current Schloss was the home and studio of artist, Georg Baselitz, until its sale in 2006. Now, after extensive renovations it is a public museum space and home to a collection of more than 5,000 works by artists including Joseph Beuys, Nicole Eisenman, Olafur Eliasson, Eric Fischl, Anselm Kiefer, Barbara Kruger, Edward Ruscha, Julian Schnabel, Andy Warhol and Franz West. In the afternoon we will travel through the countryside to Weimar, and later stay and dine at the boutique Hotel Elephant.

HOTEL ELEPHANT

For over three centuries the Hotel Elephant Weimar has been the centre of the city’s social life.

Located in the heart of the classic city, this is one of Germany’s most historic and renowned hotels. The unique charm of this boutique hotel is characterised by timelessly elegant design as well as classic Art Deco and Bauhaus elements.

DAY 4Friday 18 September

Weimar is the birthplace of the legendary Bauhaus Design School. In the morning we will visit the famed minimalistic Bauhaus Museum for a VIP guided tour. The museum is dedicated to showcasing work created in Weimar between 1919 and 1925, before the school was expelled to Dessau following pressure from the Nazi party. Following our tour, we will eat lunch at the legendary 1920s Bauhaus Canteen before departing for Berlin, where we will enjoy dinner and stay overnight at the exclusive Hotel de Rome, our home for the rest of the tour.

Berlin is home to 440 galleries, scores of world-class collections and some 10,000 international artists. The city is an important site in the global artistic circuit. Since the fall of the Wall, Berlin’s abundant space and relatively low cost of living have made it a haven for international emerging artists.

BERLINHOTEL DE ROME

The Hotel de Rome is located on the historic Bebelplatz and is one of the most prestigious luxury hotels in Berlin.

Once the seat of the renowned Dresdner Bank, tradition and stylish modernity meet today in the building from the 19th century.

Enter the impressive stone entrance area with the large magenta urns from the Atelier Prométhée and Olivia Steele’s neon birdcage – and you’ll instantly feel a sense of glamour.

Swim a few laps in the jade-coloured waters of our indoor pool, located in the former Jewel Safe. Enjoy the glowing Berlin skyline with a cocktail on the roof terrace after dark.
