A Message from Fr. Leo
Work continues in the church as we celebrate mass in the gymnasium.
I appreciate your patience and understanding. It will be well worth the wait!
We attempted to keep the same set-up in the gym as it was in the church so there is a sense of familiarity, even though we are in a different space. I am sure you have noticed the Crucified Christ on the cross at the end of the center aisle. People might wonder why the cross is not in the sanctuary space, close to the altar, as it is in many churches. There are various reasons. For one, the Church, after the Second Vatican Council, has encouraged its faithful to focus on the altar during mass, for the wood of the cross has become the altar of sacrifice. That is also why in most churches the tabernacle is no longer behind the altar. The human mind can only be attentive to one thing at a time. Secondly, Jesus is always with his people, in their midst. Having the cross in the midst of the congregation hopefully is a reminder that in our own personal passions and crucifixions we know and experience the presence of Jesus suffering with us. Jesus is not watching at a distance but close to us, present in the midst of our pain.

Nous avons essayé de garder la même configuration dans le gymnase que dans l'église, afin de créer un sentiment de familiarité, même si nous sommes dans un espace différent. Je suis sûr que vous avez remarqué le Christ crucifié sur la croix au bout de l’allée centrale. Les gens pourraient se demander pourquoi la croix n’est pas placée dans l'espace du sanctuaire, près de l'autel, comme dans de nombreuses églises. Il y a plusieurs raisons. D'une part, après le Concile de Vatican II, l'Église a encouragé ses fidèles à se concentrer sur l'autel pendant la messe, car le bois de la croix est devenu l'autel du sacrifice. C'est aussi pourquoi, dans la plupart des églises, le tabernacle n'est plus derrière l'autel. L'esprit humain ne peut être attentif qu'à une chose à la fois. Deuxièmement, Jésus est toujours avec son peuple, au milieu d'eux. Avoir la croix au milieu de la congrégation, espérons-le, nous rappelle que, dans nos passions et nos crucifixions personnelles, nous connaissons et expérimentons la présence de Jésus qui souffre avec nous. Jésus ne nous regarde pas à distance mais de près, il est proche et présent au milieu de notre douleur.
FAITH FORMATION AND SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION FOR 2019-20
Today is the first day of our 2019-2020 faith formation year. Please keep students and catechists in your prayers as we continue with our call of sharing the good news of Jesus. Parents are also continuing their faith formation; Spanish group begins today also; and English group begins next Sunday, September 22.
If you did not attend any of the orientation sessions and did not register your children for faith formation, please call the office to go through orientation and get a registration packet. It is very important that you register your
child each year and update their information and your information including any health concerns our catechists need to know. Fees are noted on the form and can be paid in full or in installments by December 31, 2019.
Please note if your child is in their first year of preparation for a sacrament (First Communion or Confirmation), the year will not count toward the preparation of the sacrament until you register even if your child is attending classes. This means that although your child might be attending classes every Sunday, if you have not registered him/her this year, it will not count toward the first year of the sacrament and they will have to repeat the year next year. So, please register your child as soon as possible.
We have a mandatory meeting with parents of children in their second year of preparation for First Communion on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at 7 PM (after Mass). If your child attended faith formation last year with few absences, and will be doing their First Communion at the end of this year, you will need to attend this meeting.

FORMACIÓN DE FE Y PREPARACIÓN SACRAMENTAL PARA EL AÑO 2019-2020
Hoy es el primer día de nuestro año de formación de fe 2019-2020. Por favor mantenga a los estudiantes y catequistas en sus oraciones mientras continuamos con nuestro llamado de compartir la buena nueva de Jesús. Los padres también continúan su formación en la fe; el grupo en español comienza hoy también; y el grupo de inglés comienza el próximo domingo 22 de septiembre.
