BILINGUAL SIGNSMooningwanekaaning – Home of the Golden Breasted
Woodpecker – is the Island’s Ojibwe name. Madeline Island is the fi
rst off-reservation location in Wisconsin to install bilingual
signs. Anishinaabemowin signs recognize the Ojibwe’s sacred ties to
Mooningwanekaaning.
AROUND THE ISLANDBicyclists ride single fi le to the right. Bike
path is on Middle Road. Speed limit for cars is 40 mph. Please help
in keeping our Island clean!
