Coaches have in mind the next round

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 7, 2013. - All is set for the start of the NORCECA second-round Group L qualifier to the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Italy, a two day competition at the Alfonso Gordillo Gymnasium in Guatemala. Host Guatemala, St. Kitts & Nevis, Aruba and Guadeloupe will battle for the two top spots that take them to next year’s qualification tournaments in their journey to Italy.

Head Coaches of Aruba and Guatemala, and Assistant Coach of St. Kitts & Nevis present during the Technical Meeting (Guadeloupe was programmed to arrive late on Friday night), said to have in mind qualifying to the next round. Aruba’s Coach, Igmar Ogenia indicated they’ve been working hard since February as they are determined to pass to the next round, “if everything we’ve been practicing turns out well and the girls don’t get nervous, I know we can make it to the third round”. Ogenia also said to be following all the qualifiers. David Aldana, Coach of Guatemala said “due to technical difficulties following the Central American Games in San Jose, training wasn’t possible and we just have four weeks of preparation. The technical staff has been renovated and even though the time has been short, it’s enough to take us to battle for the first place”. He also spoke about the development of volleyball in the Caribbean islands that are in this competition “they have the physical conditions and potential which is why we respect their height and strength”. On behalf of Stedroy “Star” Collins, St. Kitts & Nevis Coach, Deirdre Venner, his assistant, said they are prepared to play their best as they bring a small team “some of our players weren’t able to travel, but the team is mostly veterans and have played a long time together. We don’t know what to expect because we haven’t met any of our rivals and we won’t underestimate anyone”. Saturday’s action begins with Guadeloupe facing Aruba at 9:00 (local time) followed by the opening ceremony and at 11:00 Guatemala plays St. Kitts & Nevis.
