Euro-CAT-CSCL, objectives of the project
Euro-CAT-CSCL is a project under the action Industry-AcademiaPartnerships and Pathways (IAPP) of the 7th Framework Programme forInvestigation & Development of Technology in the European Union (FP7).
EURO-CAT-CSCL aims
Understand the students difficulties with the CSCL context Improve the
CSCL environments (platforms)
Education & Learning processes
Students e-learning experiences (learner/centred approach)
Enhance the tools support for
Metacognition Group contextual information(group awareness)

Euro-CAT-CSCL, first results
34 groups (n=149) engaged in 3 different collaborative contexts:
F2F, computer mediated learning teams within the same time zone, and internationalcomputer mediated learning teams with time zone differences.
Groups with no previous knowledge have a major tendency to underestimate, whereasgroups of people with an intermediate previous knowledge have a tendency tooverestimate, and groups with a high previous knowledge had quite a reliableestimation. Time differences do not induce intersubjective time estimation difficulties
but that mediated situations are the source of these kinds of difficulties, supporting theidea that mediated situations induce a loss of contextual information leading to anunderestimation of the time spent by the teammates on the collective task.
