ORIENTATION BIBLIOGRAPHIQUE SUR LA THÉORIE

DES FRONTIÈRES INTERÉTATIQUES

La documentation sur les frontières interétatiques est légion. Les litiges frontaliers ont engendré des littératures souvent contradictoires qui se logent à l'enseigne de la limologie régionale et qui constituent la majeure partie des écrits en matière de frontières ; notre bibliographie n'a retenu aucun de ces documents. Nous n'avons inclus dans cette bibliographie que les ouvrages et articles qui, dégagés des conjonctures particulières, sont des contributions directes à la théorie générale des frontières. Cette liste de références n'a rien d'exhaustif et ne constitue qu'une simple orien­tation ; nous espérons qu'elle s'avérera utile à celui qui aborde l'étude des phénomènes et des problèmes liés aux frontières étatiques et qui aura, par ailleurs, la curiosité de consulter les nombreuses autres sources qui traitent de problèmes particuliers (monographies, dossiers, plaidoyers géo­graphiques, jugements de cour ou arrêts d'arbitrage, etc . . .) et qui souvent comportent aussi des contributions intéressantes à la théorie et à la doc­trine.

Nous n'avons pas inclus toutes les références à des ouvrages où des géographes ont occasionnellement traité de phénomènes de frontières : ils sont trop nombreux. Nous n'avons retenu que ceux qui s'y consacrent au premier chef. Par ailleurs nous avons noté plusieurs références à des ou­vrages politicologiques et surtout juridiques ; nous estimons qu'elles ont leur place dans le cadre d'une publication géographique, parce que la frontière est d'abord une limite juridictionnelle et que c'est en tant que telle qu'elle peut être un facteur de différenciation de l'espace. Enfin, nous nous sommes permis d'inclure un certain nombre de références allemandes, espagnoles, italiennes, russes ; s'il est un domaine où la pluralité des espaces que les frontières séparent (ou relient) engendre la nécessité du pluril inguisme, c'est bien celui des frontières internationales.

Les titres ont été ordonnés selon un ordre thématique qui est le suivant : 1) général, 2) géographie polit ique, 3) droit international, 4) frontières et histoire, 5) frontières naturelles, 6) solutions pacifiques aux problèmes des frontières, 7) frontières stratégiques, 8) frontières et ethnies, 9) fonctions des frontières, 10) délimitation et démarcation, 11) enclaves, 12) ligne de partage des eaux, 13) frontières fluviales, 14) frontières maritimes, 15) frontières et cartographie, 16) terminologie des frontières.
