Objectifs : Dans cette séquence, nous allons un peu parler travail et occupation profesionnelle. Nous commencerons par découvrir un lieu de travail typique d’un pays anglophone. Ensuite, nous verrons le vocabulaire autour de divers métiers. Puis, nous apprendrons à décrypter et à écrire une offre d’emploi. Et enfin, nous postulerons et répondre à une offre d’emploi. Le tout en anglais !

The first type of diner was created in 1872 by Walter Scott, who sold food out of a

horse-pulled wagon, in Rhode Island, USA.

Diners are small restaurants which can be found for the most part in the USA, as

well as in Canada and Western European countries. They mostly and typically serve

American food such as hamburgers, French fries, club sandwiches but also desserts

such as pancakes, pies and milkshakes. And of course, you can have coffee there.

Much of the food is quickly cooked and grilled, and the fare is cheap.

Waitstaff wear uniforms and sometimes rollerblades.

Most diners have extended hours and can stay open for 24 hours.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the interior is decorated in a retro style.

/!\ Reminder – rappel ●Pour exprimer la volonté (« vouloir »), on utilise le verbe « want » suivi d’un nomou d’une base verbale (ou forme du verbe à l’infinitif).Exemple : « I want a cake. » (je veux un gâteau) « I want to eat a cake. » (je veux manger un gâteau)On peut également exprimer la volonté avec les expressions « would like to », « wouldlove to » ou dans leur forme contractée « ‘d like to », « ‘d love to » qui se traduisenten français par le conditionnel des verbes « aimer », « adorer ».Exemple : « I would like to be a doctor. » (j’aimerais être médecin) « He’d love to travel to Japan. » (il adorerait voyager au Japon)

Tip – astuce ● En anglais, lorsque l’on écrit une lettre ou un email à une personne que l’on ne connaîtpas, il est préférable de commencer par « Dear Sir » (cher monsieur) ou « Dear Madam »(chère madame). Sinon, tu peux écrire « Dear Mr. ... » et « Dear Mrs. ... » et compléter avecle nom du destinataire. En formule de politesse pour la fin, tu peux écrire comme Ben « bestregards » (bien cordialement) ou bien simplement « regards » (cordialement) ou encore« yours sincerely » ou pour être plus professionnel « yours faithfully » (cordialement, en plussoutenu).

Exercise 4 : Like Ben did, apply for the job offer of Active Summer. Choose an activity youwould like to teach. Write about what you like to do and your hobbies. Don’t forget tomention when you are available. Prends exemple sur Ben et postule pour l’offre d’emploi d’Active Summer. Choisis uneactivité que tu aimerais enseigner.
