MLA stands for Modern Language Association, and it serves two main purposes (#6). First, it dictates the rules for writing and publishing for English teachers. Usually, students struggle with MLA format when they first begin (#4). Why do the header and the heading have to sound almost exactly the same (#2)? A second purpose for MLA is to help students avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism. It is important for teachers like Mrs. Norton to teach students about the Works Cited pages and parenthetical citations. Without the proper citations, students could face expulsion from college down the line. While it may be confusing at first, students who learn MLA formatting quickly improve their conventions trait.
