    PDH help for studies

    Mawoussi (4-179)

Mawoussi is 8 years old girl; she came to the sisters of

congregation of Saint Gatan from Avenou. They called

PDH to help her. Mawoussi is going to a public school and

living by her grandmother and uncle because her parents

are actually in Ghana. The family is very poor andMawoussi has not good school supplies. So PDH offer her

school materials. PDH hope that Mawoussi can better learn

yet to have better notes by the next assessments.

    Pessi (4-36)

Pessi is a young girl; she is 16 years old. Orphan, she is living by an aunt. She

leaves school when she was about 10 years old. She works few months by an old

woman as a domestic and receives 50.000 FCFA.

When she came back to Lom, she makes her birth

certificate for 20.000 FCFA. She decided than to take

a training to become seamstress and pay off 30.000

FCFA to her landlady for the learning costs amounting

70.000 FCFA. To pay the rest, Pessi goes to the

sisters of congregation of Saint Gatan from Avenou

who aide her with 20.000 FCFA. Today she must

always 37.000 FCFA because some costs added.

The sisters offered her a sewing machine too. During

her rest days, she does some different works to earn a little bit money in order to eat.

At PDH, we hope that Pessi could find enough money to pay her learning costs and

    begin a work as seamstress.

    Adle (01-278)

Adle is a young mother from 4 children; she is 26 years old. She didnt exercise any

income generating activity to subsist to the needs from her family. Adle has twins

from two and a half year old. Furthermore, she gathers Julienne, a young girl from 1

year old. Julienne is the girl from her co-wife. She abandoned Julienne after her

birth. Her husband is a driver but he loses his job, so he cant assume his father

duty. Adle has 7 persons to feed. She goes to the sister Pierre Alba from the

religious congregation of Soeurs de la Providence de Saint Gatan dAvenou to

ask aid for the survival of her family. Unfortunately, all her children havent a birth

certificate and couldnt be record to receive aid. Today, she doesnt know what she

can do: stay at Lom with 5 children and without occupation or go to the village to

her parents who didnt want see her with Julienne because she is a load more. At

latest news, her husband gives them up to go to Kati, a village at Kpalim. Adle has

no news from him. The own good news for her is that she doesnt must pay a rental

because the room where she lives with her children is at her dead stepfather. PDH

gives her sometimes survival kit, but how long could PDH give this aid to Adle?

    International Volunteer

Im Lena Ziehmer, an international volunteer at PDH.Im doing my training for

three and a half months in Togo for my first master year in France as Manager

in International solidarity and social action. Im 22 years old and I have been at

PDH just since three weeks but I could already learn a lot of the work at PDH

and of the Togolese culture. Indeed, at PDH I was good welcomed and quickly

    integrated at the team.

The work to the nearest of the people really needs aid is very interesting andformative for my future job but almost for my personal development. I try to

doing my best to offer these people somewhat hope and a little smile on their

faces. Also I could see that some problems are universal: searching for a job to

earn money to subsist, have difficulties at school or diseases. Although these

problems are accentuated in Togo or Africa because there is less helps from

the government that in Europe or especially in France. Moreover, the

technologies to help people particularly at diseases are not so advanced. PDH

is really doing an amazing job to help the people give them courage in spite of

    their difficulties.

PDH warmly welcomes international interest in our volunteer program. We have hosted a diversecrowd in Lom over the last decade from solo travellers, to groups of friends, to one mother-daughter pairing all of whom fit into the organisation equally. Regardless of your age (we haveseen 19 through to 67) or your profession, volunteer work in Togo can be a profound experience.

How long can I stay? There are no minimum or maximum stays at PDH, we are willing to work with your scheduleto find something that works for both of us.

How much does the program cost?Volunteers are asked to make a 100,000 CFA (150 EUR / 200 USD) donation on arrival. Fullboard accommodation is then provided at a rate of 25,000 CFA (37.5 EUR / 50 USD) per

We often get questions about what people can send to us to help. Over the last couple of years moreand more things that we need such as school books, stationery and condoms are available here to

    buy.

Monetary donations are the most liquid, and thus most effective donation that we can receive. Weavoid postal costs, and often prices are cheaper here so we can gain the maximum value from yourmoney. Another positive outcome from doing it this way is that it helps the local economy here inTogo.

On the other hand if there is something in particular that you would like to send over (e.g. clothes, puzzles, board games) then feel free to do so; we know sometimes it is nice to send over productsthat you have chosen, so we will always be happy to accept any packages we receive. We are alsovery grateful for supplies that volunteers bring with them from their families and friends.

Very often at PDH, we are forced to turn away people that we, quite simply, cannot

help. This is due to the extremely limited nature of our financial and materialresources as we are 100% dependant on donations and volunteers.

We believe that PDH is an excellent choice for those of you who are willing to donate moneyto a small non-government, non-profit aid organization. This is because our administrationcosts are very low and we guarantee that your donation - in its entirety - will provide reliefthat is desperately required by those in need.

    Payable to:

Centre Social PDHAddress: 02 B.P. 20832 Lom, Togo, West AfricaIf writing a cheque please be aware that it might take several weeks to arrivebecause the post can be quite slow.

For amounts less than50 we recommend either using cheques or contacting us toavoid unnecessary fees charged by the Togolese bank.
