THEMATIQUE : L’Homme Virtuel : comprendre les traumatismes, les prévenir et les réparer

Le LBA est une unité mixte de recherche IFSTTAR/Aix Marseille Université composée de 39 collaborateurs. Implantée au cœur de la Faculté de Médecine, sur le Campus Hospitalo-Universitaire Nord, la singularité du Laboratoire de Biomécanique Appliquée provient de l’approche pluridisciplinaire et transversale entre Sciences pour l’Ingénieur et Médecine. Ceci a permis de développer de manière synergique des thématiques de recherches basées sur l’étude biomécanique du corps humain depuis le traumatisme jusqu’à sa réparation. Ses recherches conjuguent connaissances cliniques et anatomiques, approches expérimentales et théoriques du comportement des tissus et structures du corps humain, modélisation et simulation numérique.Nos thématiques de recherche suivent un objectif unique : l’Homme Virtuel. Pour cela, le laboratoire a cultivé une originalité scientifique en développant différentes familles de modèles numériques du corps humain et privilégiant une analyse biomécanique multi-échelle (du tissu isolé jusqu’au corps humain). Le LBA s’est historiquement fortement investi dans la protection et la modélisation des usagers qui représentent des enjeux de santé publique et de sécurité dans les transports: l’enfant, les motocyclistes et les piétons. Il a développé des spécificités dans la modélisation de la femme enceinte, du rachis, du membre pelvien, du comportement physiologique du corps humain, dans l’introduction des méthodes acoustiques en biomécanique et enfin dans la biomécanique de la région abdominale et pelvienne.Les modèles ainsi développés trouvent aujourd’hui de nombreuses applications dans le champ de la clinique. Ceci est soutenu par le rapprochement du LBA et du Centre d’Enseignement et de Recherche Chirurgicale (le CERC) qui est un service commun de l’Université conçu pour répondre à des besoins d'enseignement et de recherche sur les techniques chirurgicales mini-invasives, moins agressives que les techniques conventionnelles.La conjugaison des ressources du LBA et du CERC (expérimentaux, enseignement et recherche) nous permet de décliner une plateforme de recherche intégrée en Biomécanique et approche clinique unique au sein d’un campus hospitalio-universitaire.

Ainsi, nos perspectives de recherche sont centrées sur l’Homme Virtuel pour comprendre les traumatismes, les prévenir et les réparerIci, la notion de traumatisme est à prendre au sens large. Elle considère le traumatisme externe (qui renvoie aux enjeux de compréhension, prévention, prise en charge et réparation) et le traumatisme interne (pour le développement de nouvelles techniques chirurgicales et de dispositifs médicaux). Ce positionnement scientifique dans les champs de la santé et des transports est ainsi de nature à porter la stratégie scientifiques des deux tutelles. Il ouvre ainsi deux champs d’applications complémentaires : « protection et performance » et « technologie pour la santé ».
