MONTY ALEXANDER Une lgende du jazz Paris

From Louis Armstrong to Bob Marley via Nat King Cole, Art Tatum or Frank Sinatra, the extraordinary pianist Monty Alexander - born in Kingston, Jamaica, and who went to live in The United States at the age of seventeen - has been a musician modelled by jazz and the rhythms of the islands. Monty Alexander succeeded in absorbing this fertile twin-legacy to become his own man, a colourist piano-player and virtuoso whose robust, swing-filled playing is impregnated with the influences of his masters Wynton Kelly and Ahmad Jamal. For fifty years, Monty has been a visible figure on the jazz scene in America and Europe, partnering legends such as Dizzy Gilles-pie, Benny Golson, Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, Ernest Ranglin and others, while releasing in parallel almost seventy albums as a leader. In the amphitheatre, a gem of early 20th century architecture, the festival invites performances by artists who cross seas and oceans. Today Monty Alexander invites us on a musical journey between blues and jazz via the rhythms of his native Jamaica. The result is an emotional rainbow for a swing-filled evening characterized by the culture-mix in which jazz has always shown its expertise.
