No flower is as recognizable as the rose. It is one of the only flowers that is both common as well as exquisitely elegant. The flower originated in Morocco and has been cultivated for over 3000 years. In addition to its timeless aroma, the rose is believed to have healing properties. It is a mild astringent, beneficial for sensitive skin and useful for tired eyes and headaches.

EXTRACTIONFlowers are hand-picked during early morning hours and processed quickly. Rose essential oil, as well as concrete and absolute solvents, are extracted by water or steam distillation from fresh petals. The production of rose water is a by-product of the distillation process. Also, rose leaf absolute is produced in small quantities in France.

BLENDS WELL WITHBlends well with most oils, including jasmine, orange blossom, geranium, lavender, patchouli and palmarosa. It is useful for “rounding out” blends.

YVES SAINT LAURENT: PARISYves Saint Laurent adored the city of Paris and named his perfume after it as a tribute to the Parisian women he dressed as well as the women in love who were sent bouquets of pastel roses!

The fragrance, a symbol of femininity, is a floral bouquet of rose and violet. The perfumer, Sophia Grosjman, was inspired by the smell of vintage roses which bloom in the gardens of Marrakech, one of YSL’s fetish cities.

Although native to France, India and Egypt, Jasmine is a member of a genus of approximately 200 species of shrubs and climbing vines that are native to tropical areas of southeast Asia, Africa and Australia. The popularity of Jasmine’s scent has resulted in the species being grown world-wide. Jasmine grows as a climbing vine with shiny, oval leaves and waxy-white flowers that are tubular in shape. The plant blooms between June and October.

EXTRACTIONJasmine concrete is produced by solvent extraction. Jasmine absolute comes from separating the concrete with alcohol and the essential oil is produced by steam distilling the absolute.

BLENDS WELL WITHBlends well with most ingredients, including citrus oils, rose, sandalwood and clary sage. It is known for its ability to round out “rough” notes.

Tuberose is native to Central America and cultivated in France, India, Morocco, Egypt and the Comoro Islands. Warm, sultry and enveloping, the fragrance is innately sensual. Its yearly yield is measured in kilos, making it one of the world’s most costly perfume ingredients. The highly-prized oil is extracted from intensely aromatic, waxy-white flowers shaped like tubes. In perfumery, it adds strength and personality and is used in high-end floral and floral-oriental fragrances.

Sweet, juicy sap is stored in the floral tissue and is attractive to bees. It is native to Europe, distributed over North America and Northern Asia and in England often grows as a wild flower.
