For some time now I have strongly believed that there is a need for a traditional private bank where clients can be confident that their assets are safe. Despite my long experience of the financial markets I was deeply concerned by the recent global financial crisis, which made it all the more apparent to me that there is a need for a bank such as this.

With Banque Havilland we are building a strong new private bank that provides safety and reliability for those who are looking for a new partner to help them structure and manage their wealth. Our Bank is run conservatively and we have made a point of putting our initial focus on getting the ‘basics’ right. We want Banque Havilland to be the type of bank that we, as a family, would like to bank with - from prudent management of the balance sheet through to good quality service. By placing family members in both the management and staff of the Bank we hope to ensure that these values of the family are embedded into the culture.

We think that our proposition is attractive, as whilst clients will have the security of a sound and independent bank this is complemented by having access to the experience and the network of a family that has successfully grown and managed their wealth over many years.

THE OWNERS

The Private, Private Bank

Established in 2009 by the Rowland Family, Banque Havilland emerged from the family’s desire to create a private bank that they would like to bank with.

The family has many years of professional experience in the finance and investment sector and views the ownership of a bank as a natural progression.

A Track Record of Financial Experience

Since the mid-1960s David Rowland has worked to build the family fortune through acquiring and dealing in international property, global resources and mining, ports, ship building, financial services and private operational and distribution businesses.

Family investments have taken the form of both direct and indirect stakes in businesses, either on their own behalf or in conjunction with select partners.

THE ASSET MANAGEMENT APPROACH

Traditional… yet not so Traditional Asset Management

Our traditional approach focuses on low risk/high return assets, with a priority on liquidity at all times.

We are not driven by a benchmark and therefore maintain flexibility over strategy, from traditional ‘buy and hold’; to quick turnarounds. The portfolios can be invested or disinvested at any time based on our assessment of market sentiment, volatility and timings.

We are not restricted by traditional boundaries – we use the most suitable instrument to achieve the desired market exposure irrespective of geography, sector and asset class.

Unconstrained investment style – idea generation is based on a continuous review of global themes, trends and specific asset classes. We develop this still further through our network of partners.

THE CO-INVESTMENT APPROACH

An offering that clearly sets Banque Havilland apart from other private banks

Alongside the traditional private banking services, clients are also invited to ‘co-invest’ with the family.

This environment opens up investment opportunities that are not accessible to the public. These opportunities can range from private equity style products such as stakes in start-up companies, pre-IPO support or distressed situations through to attractively-priced senior ranking bonds and loans to well-established corporates.

These investments will have passed the family’s investment vetting process and will be opportunities that the family itself invests in.

The investment horizon spans almost all business sectors and geographies, and all types of financial instruments from private equity to listed securities.
