Baptisms: Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

Bishops on God’s Word and Catechesis.
Learn the Language of Faith The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans states that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through
the word of Christ” (10,17). The “textbook” from which we learn the language of faith is the Bible and
Catechism of our Church. Therefore, we encourage you to treat the Holy Scriptures and the Catechism of
the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, “Christ our Pascha,” as the most important books in every family.
Our Venerable Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky teaches us how to read the Bible in the family: “It is
necessary for every Christian to clearly understand the value of reading and knowing the Bible. The Holy
Gospel is what sanctifies every home and showers it with grace, for it is bestows faith and love on its
inhabitants. The Gospel protect them from harm, shows them the path in life, uplifts their hearts to heaven
and cleanses their souls of stain. I would not hesitate to say that it heals all wounds of their bodies. The
practice of reading the Holy Scriptures every day, even briefly, ought to become the practice of every
Christian family. Such reading should be seen as daily nourishment. It is a healthy, healing and
strengthening food…” (On Venerating the Holy Cross).

«БОЖЕ СЛОВО І КАТЕХИЗАЦІЯ»
Вчитися мови віри Апостол Павло в Посланні до римлян твердить, що «віра із слухання, а слухання
через слово Христове» (10, 17). «Букварем», з якого вивчаємо мову віри, є Святе
Письмо і Катехизм нашої Церкви. Тому заохочуємо, щоб Святе Письмо та Катехизм
УГКЦ «Христос – наша Пасха» були настільними книгами в кожній родині.
Про читання Святого Письма в родині наш праведний митрополит Андрей навчає:
«Треба, щоб кожний християнин ясно здавав собі справу з користі читання і знання
Святого Письма. Святе Євангеліє є предметом, що хату освячує і стягає на неї
благодать, бо є предметом віри й любові жителів хати. Воно стереже їх перед злом,
показує їм дорогу, підносить їх серця до неба, очищує плями їх душ. Я не вагався б
сказати, що воно лікує рани їх тіл. Звичай читати Святе Письмо кожного дня, хоч би
хвилинку, повинен стати звичаєм кожної християнської родини. Те читання повинно
бути щоденним кормом людей. Воно ж кормом здоровим, цілющим,
скріпляючим…» (Про почитання Святого Хреста).

Нехай Господь благословить Вас за участь і молитву!
Притча про митаря і фарисея; духовне значення
Ця притча свідчить, що Господь Бог не дивиться на
особу чи її стан, але дивиться на її серце й душу. Тут
розуміємо правдивість слів Святого Письма, в якому
сказано: «... Бог гордим противиться, а покірливим дає
благодать» (1 Пт 5, 5).
Тож зрозуміло, що Бог не прийняв молитви
чванькуватого й гордого фарисея, зате вислухав молитву
покірного митаря. Гордість належить до головних гріхів і
є найбільшою перепоною до навернення і покаяння, а
покора – це початок справжнього навернення і основа
правдивого покаяння й посту. Отже, свята Церква бажає, щоб і ми, наближаючись до
Великого посту, готувалися до нього великою покорою
та свідомістю нашої гріховності, бо тільки тоді буде в нас
добра воля до скрухи серця, посту й покаяння. Без
покори нема навернення, нема жалю за гріхи й нема
повернення до Бога.
«Тікаймо від фарисеєвої хвальби, – сказано в кондаці, – і
навчімося митаревої величі слів смиренних, і кличмо у
покаянні: Спасителю світу, очисти рабів Твоїх.

Сьогодні відзначаємо Всесвітній День
Одруження. Головне послання - “Всесвітній День
Одруження шанує чоловіка і дружину, як
засновників сім’ї, підвалину нашого суспільства.
Віддається честь їхній вірності, жертвенності і
радості в щоденному подружньому житті”. Парафія вітає
дві пари, які святкують подружні ювілеї в 2019 році:
Мар’ян і Лідія Вирсти – 60 - та річниця - 29 серпня.
Ларі і Надія Пелз – 25 - та річниця - 14 травня.
Нехай Господь благословить ці пари прожити спільно в
щасті і здоров’ї на Многії і Благії літа.

Цього року відзначаємо 5 - ту річницю розстрілу на
Майдані в Києві Героїв “Небесної Сотні” 18 – 21 лютого.
В неділю 24 лютого після третьої Літургії буде
відслужено в нашій катедрі поминальну панахиду за
блаженний спокій душ полеглих Героїв, а також в
церкві Пресвятої Тройці в Норт Роялтоні о 2 годині
пополудні буде відслужена спільна поминальна
панахида за усопшими, після чого буде концерт –
реквієм, організований Товариством “Клівленд –
Майдан”. Запрошуємо парафіян до спільної молитви.

Welcome all parishioners and visitors to our Cathedral.
May the Lord God bless us as we gather in prayer.
The tax collector went home justified; not so the Pharisee [Luke
18:14]
O God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Sirach 35 is a perfect
companion piece to the Gospel parable. In one striking image
from Sirach, the writer talks about "the prayer of the lowly,
piercing the clouds to reach the unseen throne of God.” Such
prayers are heard because they come from the hearts of people
who know how much they need God. Although God has no
favorites and answers the prayers of all, the oppressed, the
orphans, the widows, and those who can least help themselves
are His special concern. The best prayer is humble and selfless
service. Paul, a former Pharisee [2 Timothy 4], humbly
acknowledges his work as accomplished by the grace of God,
and he thanks God for enabling him to fight a good battle -- to
run a good race while keeping his Faith intact and proclaiming
it. In Luke 18, about the Pharisee and the tax collector, Jesus
reminds us that God hears the prayers those who approach
Him in humility with a repentant heart. God did not hear the
prayer of the Pharisee because he exalted himself. His prayer
was a prayer of thanksgiving that he was not as evil as other
people. He announced to God his freedom from sin and detailed
his fidelity in observing the prescribed fast and in giving tithes.
The tax collector’s prayer, “O God, be merciful to me, a
sinner,” was heard because he humbled himself, acknowledging
his sins and requesting God’s mercy.

TODAY IS WORLD MARRIAGE DAY
World Marriage Day takes place today, February 10,
2019. It is an observance sponsored by the Catholic
Marriage Encounter movement observed on the
second Sunday of February each year. “World
Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the
foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the
beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married
life.”

ЗАОХОЧУЄМО МОЛОДЬ ДО УЧАСТІ
Молодіжний Комітет Пармської Єпархії запрошує
молодь на 9 – ті щорічні реколекції, які відбудуться в
місті Остінтаун в суботу і неділю 23 і 24 березня. Тема
цьогорічних реколекцій: “Хто має вуха слухати нехай
слухає” (Мт. 13.9) і фокусується на Слові Божому і
катехизмі.

PANAKHYDA SERVICES FOR THE
“HEAVENLY HUNDRED”
On Sunday, February 24, 2019, after the 11am Divine Liturgy,
we will have a Panakhyda service in St. Josaphat Cathedral for
the “Heavenly Hundred”. This year we will commemorate the
5th Anniversary of the “Heavenly Hundred” heroes killed in the
worst Maidan bloodshed in Kyiv on February 18-21, 2014. Also, on February 24, 2019, at 2pm, the Ukrainian community
will join with clergy from different church denominations at
Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in North Royalton for a
Panakhyda Service and requiem concert in remembrance of the
“Heavenly Hundred”. Sponsored by Cleveland Maidan
Association. You all are cordially invited to take part in
commemorating the “Heavenly Hundred”.
ZORYA UKRAINIAN FEMALE VOCAL ENSEMBLE
will hold an Open House on Sunday, February 24, 2019, from
2:30 – 4:30 pm, at the St. Josaphat Cathedral Astrodome
(Kashtan dance studio), 5720 State Road, Parma, Ohio.

COMMEMORATION OF THE DECEASED:
SOROKOUSTY
On Saturdays during the Great Fast (Lent), we pray
for all those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. If
you would like to request that your departed loved ones be
remembered by name during the services, special envelopes are
available on the table in the Cathedral vestibule. If you had
already given the names last year, there is no need to write all the
names on the envelope since we have the lists from last year. If
all the names are the same, please print “SAME AS LAST
YEAR” and add any additional names you wish. Please print
your name at the bottom of the envelope. You may drop the
envelopes in the collection basket or bring them to the rectory
office no later than Thursday, February 28, 2019.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE
From March 6 - April 14, you’re invited to join
other Christians for 40 Days for Life - 40 days of
prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You’re
also invited to stand and peacefully pray anytime
between 7am to 7pm during the 40-day vigil in the public right
-of-way outside Preterm - 12000 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland,

LOCK-IN RETREAT
The Saint Josaphat Eparchy Youth Committee is preparing
for the ninth annual Lock-in Retreat to be held from 1:00pm
on Saturday, March 23rd to 1:00pm on Sunday, March 24th at
Saint Anne’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4310 Kirk Rd,
Austintown, Ohio.
This annual event is designed for Teenagers/Young Adults.
This year’s Theme is: “He who has ears to hear let him
hear” (Mt 13:9), with a special focus on the Word of God and
Catechesis. We encourage our youth to attend this Retreat. If
you are interested in attending, please inform Father Bohdan.
PARISH RECOLLECTION
Please mark your calendar. Our St. Josaphat Parish Mission is
scheduled for Sunday, March 31st through Wednesday, April
3rd.
The spiritual director for the mission will be Rev. Volodymyr
Hrytsyuk, Pastor of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church,

Pyrohy Sales have now reopened. Our sales hours
are: Thursdays & Fridays, from 8AM until 1PM.
We ask all parishioners who have the time, to donate a few
hours to help our parish with this project. " W ork in Christian

God" - a quote from the homily of His Beatitude Sviatoslav.” We
graciously THANK our dedicated workers who donate their

Zacchaeus Bible & Catechism Study Group
St. Josaphat Parish will be starting a Bible Study and UGCC
Catechism Study Group. Our first meeting will be on
Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 6:30pm in the Men’s Club
Room. Participants will read, discuss and learn about Holy
Scripture and the Catechism of our Ukrainian Church. The
group is open to high school students through adults from
any and all parishes in the local area. Archdeacon Jeff will
lead the group. All are encouraged to attend this first
meeting!
