The European Marine Energy Centre was set up to provide developers of wave a nd tidal energy devices with a purpose-built performance testing facility. Over £15 million has been invested in providing the world class wave and tidal test facilities. The location around Orkney, has been chosen because of the proximity of an excellent oceanic wave regime, strong tidal currents, grid connection, sheltered harbourfacilities and a “centre of excellence” for renewable energy and environmental issues that exists within the local community.
