Gammon is embarking on a new journey towards ‘Responsible Growth – 25 by 25’, which sets targets based on 25% improvements by 2025 in four focus areas: People, Safety, Value Chain and Environment.

金門已踏上「積極承擔 持續發展 — 25成就25」新里程,就人、

安全、價值鏈和環保四大核心範疇,要在2025年或以前實現一

系列改善25%的目標。

It seems appropriate that Gammon’s first job in Hong Kong, exactly 60 years ago, was extending the airport runway. We were fortunate to play that part in connecting Hong Kong to the world, because those global links helped Hong Kong grow. Hong Kong has become a leading world city, a key part of something bigger.

So Gammon has also grown, hand-in-hand with Hong Kong. Today, we are also in Singapore, mainland China and Vietnam. I am one of 7,000 staff, supported by a workforce of 13,000 on some 80 job sites.

We can be quietly proud of what we have achieved together by striving to do our best. But remembering Gammon’s 60 years of growth reminds us of our roots in Hong Kong and our responsibilities as members of a growing community. Recalling the past teaches us how we can do even better in future. By sharing these ideas, we benefit the entire industry, as well as our community.

We now know that sustainability is vital. Our Responsible Growth – 25 by 25 initiative targets 25% improvements by 2025 in issues including off-site construction operations and carbon intensity. This is powered by Integrated Digital Project Delivery (IDPD), a new way of building for improved productivity, safety, quality and sustainability – using digital technologies to integrate and accelerate the complete construction cycle from initial planning to facilities management.

Continuous improvement has been the Gammon way, for 60 years. We do our best and then we do better.

六十年前,金門在香港承建的第一項工程,是擴建當時啟德機場的跑道。

這項目加強了香港與世界各地的聯繫,加速香港的發展,金門能參與這有

意義的項目亦感光榮。

時至今日,香港已發展成先進的國際大都會,為整個亞洲地區作出重

要貢獻。在這60年間,金門與香港一起成長,今天的金門已駐足新加

坡、中國內地和越南,擁有7,000名員工,13,000名

工人每日在80個地盤緊密施工。

IF NOT US, WHO?Gammon has just embarked on a new mission to step up our Caring with People – the most valuable asset of our business.

We are determined to improve staff turnover in the first year of joining by enhancing on-boarding experience and mentoring, aiming for a 25 per cent reduction by 2025. To promote employee volunteering and engagement, we aim to achieve a 25 per cent increase by 2025 in volunteer hours per person on activities that benefit the community. We are also setting targets for monitoring and improving staff happiness, improving staff skills, creating employment opportunities for the economically disadvantaged and marginal social groups, and enhancing safety.

These goals are integral parts of our sustainability strategy, Responsible Growth – 25 by 25, which focuses on four areas: People, Safety, the Value Chain and Environment. A practical guide towards these goals is now available in our intranet. Please take some time to read more.

Pride has to be earned. In this issue we take pride in a number of outstanding individual and team achievements industry-wide earned by Gammon people – the Construction Industry Council’s first Sustainable Construction Awards, the Lighthouse Club’s Contractor Safety Awards, the HKICM Construction Management Awards, and last but not least, the Hong Kong Awards for Industries, the IDC Digital Transformation Awards, in which Gammon was named Operating Model Master of the Year and as one of the “best of the best”.

The Highways Department has awarded Gammon the contract for the Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link – Northern Connection Tunnel Buildings, Electrical and Mechanical Works, a project that is valued at HK$2.6 billion.

The project will involve electrical and mechanical facilities for the newly constructed five-km tunnel that stretches from Tuen Mun to the Boundary Crossing Facilities Island, including the tunnel’s ventilation, tunnel and road lighting, and its central monitoring and control systems.

It also involves construction of tunnel buildings, including the administrative centre, the toll control building, the maintenance depot and the satellite control building, as well as landscaping at both ends of the tunnel.

Gammon will employ design for manufacture and assembly methods and integrated digital project delivery to ensure that the project is completed safely and efficiently. At least 70 per cent of the E&M works will be undertaken using modular construction, while drone photogrammetry

will be used for 3D mapping and surveying in the interests of accuracy.

Completion of the project is slated for late 2020.

金門獲路政署批出屯門至赤�角連接路 — 北面連

接路隧道大樓及機電工程合約,總值26億港元。

項目主要是為新建由屯門至香港口岸的5公里隧

道建立機電系統,包括通風系統、道路照明及中央

監控系統等。

合約亦涵蓋相關的土木及樓宇建造,包括興建

行政大樓、收費管制大樓、維修廠房、衛星控制大

樓及相關的環境美化工程。

為確保施工安全及提升效率,金門會採用簡化

製造及裝配過程的設計及綜合數碼建造方案。項目

中最少七成的機電工程將採用模組化建造,亦會運

用航空攝影測量、三維地圖及測量技術,確保施工

數據精確。

預計項目將於2020年底完成。1

2018 Innovation Competition創意大獎2018

Gammon recognised innovative thinkers at the awards ceremony of the annual Innovation Competition at Town Hall, Blueprint, 2/F, Dorset House, Taikoo Place on 22 November 2018.

From a huge number of excellent entries, the judging panel had the difficult task of choosing a shortlist of just six projects to represent the remarkable depth of creativity

expressed throughout the company and its partners.

The quality of the entries this year was so high that the judges were eventually forced to choose two winners. The winning entries were Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) with Flying Factory, an innovative, integrated concept from Victor Tse, KC Lau, Vincent Lei, Eric Tse, and Cris Lee, and the Gambot

(Gammon Software Robot) Construction Intelligence ecosystem, devised by Lavender Liu, Alan Kong, Kitto Chung, Sze Kai Yat, David Chui, Franco Fung, and Jake Li.

integrated approach. On the other hand, by utilising mobile devices, cameras, cutting-edge technologies, and advances in AI and computer vision, Gambot can identify different objects and people in the real world in a real-time manner to take timely actions that improve safety and productivity.

Stressing a common theme seen in all the entrants, judges praised these winning innovators for their advancement of safety, productivity and quality.

Four other innovations were shortlisted: • The Cage Fabrication Station enhances

workers’ safety without affecting their pro-ductivity in the making of rebar cages as it eliminates working at height and demand-ing manual lifting. The station’s modular design also facilitates mobilisation on site.

• High-E Concrete, developed by Gammon and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, has a high modulus of elasticity and excellent workability for structural engineering design on an industry-wide scale. When utilised for tall buildings, it is expected to reduce materials required by 15-25 per cent and increase usable interior space by 2-5 per cent.

• The IoT Enabled Concrete Quality Assurance: Temperature project links

smart sensors inside concrete trucks to a Concrete Management System that uses artificial intelligence to analyse concrete temperature and other information in real-time for compliance management and predictive manufacturing. It minimises production costs, human errors, quality risks and carbon footprint.

• CMS Pro lets staff place concrete orders to the Concrete Technology Department through a user-friendly mobile app, making the process paperless and reducing human errors. The platform offers a comprehensive linkage between

stakeholders, including the concrete supplier, main contractor, laboratory, consultants and client, with easy data access for logistics and testing.

Selecting winners was no easy task, and the judging panel drew on wide-ranging talents in reaching a decision. The panel included Gammon Chief Executive, Thomas Ho, and two other senior Gammon executives, and six experienced external judges from construction engineering, property management, and government.

大賽」頒獎典禮在2018年11月22日假太古坊多盛大廈

2樓Blueprint隆重舉行,表揚金門傑出的創意先鋒。

評審團要從眾多優秀的參賽項目中選出最後六

強進入決賽,從中展現金門和合作夥伴具深度的創

意和能力,絕對是一項艱鉅任務。

今年參賽項目質素之高,實在令評審團難於取

捨,最後兩個項目難分高下,雙雙成為了大獎得

主。它們分別是集合謝穎�、劉國昌、李彥璋、謝

適之及李澤堯創新意念的「結合流動生產線的組裝

合成建築法」; 以及由劉點點、鄺偉倫、鍾及至、

施啟日、徐穎標、馮達禮和李宇安研發的Gambot

「建築智能生態系統」。

「結合流動生產線的組裝合成建築法」將組裝工

序安排在一個面積達800平方米的工場進行,工場

備有13個不同功能的貨櫃箱,能簡單而靈活地實行

模組化預製工序。另一方面,Gambot能利用行動裝

置、相機,尖端科技、人工智能和電腦視覺等先進技

術,實時識別工地內的物件和工作人員,繼而採取

適時適切的行動,有助提升工地的安全和生產效率。

評審團強調所有參賽項目都能展現金門的創意

文化,得獎項目更能大大提升安全、生產力和質量。

另四項入圍得獎項目包括:

• 鋼筋籠製作站剔除了高空工作和人手提吊的必要,

能提升工人的安全,同時無礙他們的生產效率。這

項目亦以模組設計,方便在地盤組裝和施工。

• High-E混凝土由金門和香港科技大學共同研發,

它具備上佳的彈性模數和可使用性,適用於廣泛

的結構工程。用於建造高層樓宇,預計可節省用

料15至20%,同時增加室內空間2至5%。

• 連結物聯網的混凝土品質保證系統:溫度把混凝

土車內的智能溫度感應器連接混凝土管理系統,

以人工智能實時分析混凝土溫度和有關資料,方

便進行合規管理和預測製造。這系統大大節省生

產成本、可能出現的人為失誤,並能降低質量風

險和碳足跡。

• 混凝土電子送貨單和管理系統是一個溝通平台,

讓員工以一個簡單易用的流動電話應用程式向混

凝土技術部下單,過程無紙化,同時減少人為誤

差。而且這平台能全面連繫有關的持分者,包括

混凝土供應商、總承建商、實驗室、顧問和客

戶,方便取得物流和測試數據等資料。

評審團成員包括金門總裁何安誠和兩位高級行政人

員,還有六位來自建築工程、物業管理和政府的代

Lavender Liu, Senior Systems Engineer (AI) and David Chui, Engineer

Idea: Using Gambot to count dump trucks automatically

Description: The J3703 project team works together with the Information Management Services department to create a computer vision system to phase out manual counting of the number of dump trucks. By collecting a large number of dump trucks images and video, the neural network technology enables Gambot to identity the targeted dump trucks. Then, a high resolution IP camera is set up on site to capture real-time videos for automatic counting.

Benefits: The innovation can provide improvements in both safety and efficiency as it minimises the number of workers involved in counting trucks as well as the risk to workers doing so on busy roads. Besides, the production rate can be obtained from Gambot directly for site monitoring.

創新意念:利用Gambot自動點算泥頭車

特點:J3703項目團隊與資訊管理系統部合作,建立了一套電腦視像系

統,逐步淘汰用人手點算泥頭車數量。團隊收集了大量泥頭車不同角

度的相片和周遭環境建設的影片,讓Gambot(金門自行研發的人工智

能軟件機械人)透過它的神經網絡技術進行辨識,同時在地盤設置高解

像網路監控攝影機捕捉實時影像,自動點算泥頭車數目。

效益:這創新系統減少點算泥頭車的工人數目,並降低他們在繁忙道

路上點算車輛的風險,能同時提升安全和效率。此外,泥頭車的效率

數據能直接從Gambot取得,以作地盤的監察之用。

Tim Mak, Senior Finance Manager and Innovation Lead, Central Services

Idea: Using robotic process automation (RPA) to extract the direct and subcontractor labour information from the Construction Industry Council (CIC)

Description: The RPA extracts information from the CIC including registration, trade registered and other qualifications. This process provides Gammon with an accurate record, particularly on the expiry of Construction Workers Registration (CWR) cards without the needs of requiring site administrators to obtain updates from the workers.

Benefits: The innovation avoids false alerts about the expiry of CWR cards that might block workers from site entry and also allows Gammon to acquire updated and accurate information about workers’ skills. Furthermore, early alerts are made possible on the upcoming expiry of CWR cards by flagging on the ACE dashboard as company-wide information.

創新意念:以機器人流程自動化程式從建造業議會提取直屬和分判商

工人的資料

特點:這機器人流程自動化程式從建造業議會提取工人的註冊資料、已

登記的工種及他們的資歷,能為金門提供準確紀錄,特別是工人的「建

築業工人註冊證」過期日,而地盤主管毋須向工人逐一取得更新資料。

效益:如工人的註冊證續期後但未及時更新紀錄,可能無法進入地

盤,這自動程式能避免這情況發生,同時讓金門掌握工人技能的最新

和最準確資料。此外,又可預早在工程的ACE儀錶板上作出標示,提

醒有工人的註冊證快將到期,方便公司資訊互通。

Prestigious residential project awarded to Gammon承建高尚住宅項目

Gammon has been awarded a luxury residential project by Gold Topmont Limited, a subsidiary of Goldin Group. The HK$2.9 billion project is envisioned as an iconic landmark on Sheung Shing Street in Ho Man Tin.

It will include six residential towers, a clubhouse, an outdoor swimming pool and a two-level basement carpark.

The project team will adopt innovative technologies including 3D scanning for the collection of accurate data, as well as drones and infrared cameras for surveying and exoskeletons for manual handling in the interest of workers’ safety.

The project is due for completion in 2020. Thomas Ho, Gammon Chief Executive said he was proud to be awarded the contract and confident of being able to deliver value to the client.

金門承建高銀集團旗下金鋑有限公司位於何文田常盛街的高

尚住宅項目,合約總值29億港元,竣工後將成為何文田另一

矚目地標。

項目包括建造六座住宅大樓、會所、室外泳池及兩層地

庫連停車場。

團隊會採用創新技術協助施工,包括用三維立體掃瞄技

術收集精準的數據、用航拍機和紅外線相機協助檢測工程,

以及引進連身機械裝甲衣,以減輕工人的身體勞累,保障他

們的安全和健康。

Franco Fung, Engineer and Lavender Liu, Senior Systems Engineer (AI)

Idea: Using a fabrication yard monitoring system with CCTV and AI to monitor the progress of sub-contracted steel fixers

Description: Incorporated with a CCTV system and AI, the fabrication yard monitoring system is able to process the workers’ numbers and movements into statistics such as working minutes and production rates in tonnage. Such information is then relayed to Gambot for the management staff to review at any time to assess the progress of subcontractors.

Benefits: The innovation offers a better way of monitoring the works underway in the fabrication yard. The data collected can provide helpful data for monitoring the progress of sub-contract-ed steel fixers, whose production rate directly affects the progress of concreting a bored pile and the planning of a project. If the device can be implemented in every foundation site, the col-lected performance assessments of different sub-contractors will be useful for tendering and estimating the teams.

後把資料傳送至Gambot,讓管理人員隨時查閱及評估分判商的進度。

效益:這創新系統提供另一種更有效監控製造工場的方法。所收集的

At events celebrating Gammon’s 60 years in Hong Kong, we were honoured by the attendance of Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong; Michael Wong, Secretary of Development, several former Gammon CEOs and family members of Gammon's founder. Gammon Chief Executive, Thomas Ho and other senior executives joined these VIP guests, shareholders from Jardines, Gammon staff and partners in recalling past successes and looking forward to the future.

Altogether, over 600 guests joyfully marked the company’s 60th anniversary with a cocktail evening at the Prison Yard of the

holograms demonstrated data centre development applications.

The event was also a perfect opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of staff and business partners and the company’s triumphs over the year. Thomas Ho saluted their ceaseless efforts to strive for excellence. He emphasised the continued progress seen in the company’s “Responsible Growth

Laying a path for future success, repre-sentatives of the Young Professionals Group (YPG) were delighted to have the opportunity to share their views and hear the insights of Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

On the previous day, 12 November, Gammon’s executive directors; ex-CEOs David Morris, John Chan and Martin Hadaway; as well as David, Andrew, and Ben Gammon – descendants of the company’s founder, John Gammon – joined more than 30 business partners and stakeholders for dinner at The Tai Pan restaurant at The Murray hotel. They took the opportunity to share fond memories of the company’s six decades of stories, both personal and professional.

While the company has achieved many firsts and many great successes in its long history, Thomas Ho said: "Above all, it is

people that have created the success story of both Gammon and Hong Kong.”

“It is all of you – our shareholders, our business partners and stakeholders; our management and staff, past and present – who have played such an invaluable part in Gammon’s success,” he told the audience.

酒會上放映了一段回顧金門過去60年發展歷程和

展望未來的短片,並重點介紹金門的「綜合數碼建造

方案」和最新的建築科技,包括感應器的應用和「組裝

合成」建築法,又運用全息圖展示數據中心的發展。

何安誠並藉此難得機會,感謝員工和業務夥伴

多年來與金門攜手,共創卓越成績。他強調,為了推

動公司繼續向前邁進,金門訂立「積極承擔 持續發展

- 25成就25」發展策略,涵蓋生產力至環保等範疇,

旨在2025年或以前實現一系列改善25%的目標。

In a measure of Gammon’s commitment to operate its business in a socially and environmentally responsible way and create long-term value for the company and for society, we have been cooperating with developer Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) to decarbonise our energy consumption.

One way that Gammon and SHKP have been working together to this aim is by adopting an early engagement approach for earlier on-site electrification at six works areas in the Sai Sha Road project. Not using diesel generators, we could reduce exhaust fumes and greenhouse gas emissions released, as well as noise pollution, and also decrease land and water contamination caused by diesel storage and filling.

In addition, Gammon’s Sai Sha Road project team has installed solar photovoltaic panels to join CLP’s Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme with the support of SHKP. More notably, it is the first solar power generation system in Hong Kong installed at a temporary site office to sell power under the scheme. The 45kW capacity solar power renewable energy generation system is now operating at a rate of HK$4/kWh with an estimated payback period of less than five years.

In joint venture with Sanfield Management, the subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties, Gammon takes on the HK$2.3 billion project for widening Sai Sha Road in Shap Sze Heung, Sai Kung.

The civil project involves widening a section of the road and converting it from dual 2-lane to dual 4-lane, developing a cycling track, installing noise barriers, carrying out measures for trees preservation, constructing three footbridges and providing extensive water and sewage utilities, which will include two pumping stations and the installation of sewage pipes. The project will widen Sai Sha Road, eliminate flooding risk and enable further development to proceed safely.

減碳。

早在開展西沙路項目的初期,金門已經與新地緊密合作,在六個工地位置

接駁電力網絡,地盤無需設置柴油發電機,減少了排放廢氣、溫室氣體和噪

音,亦沒有因儲存和補充柴油而造成的泥土和水污染。

此外,在新地的支持下,金門團隊在西沙路地盤安裝了太陽能光伏板,並

加入中電的「可再生能源上網電價」計劃。更重要的是,這是全港第一個安裝

在地盤臨時辦 公室,參與該計劃出售電力的太陽能發電系統,它能生產電力

45kW,現以每度電四港元運作,估計在五年內回本。

金門的措施正好配合環境局推廣使用可再生能源的政策,及即將制訂的

2050年長期減碳策略;亦是履行金門最近推出的「積極承擔 持續發展 — 25成就

For more than 15 years, Gammon has been advancing the cause of sustainability within the company, as well as working to influence the construction industry as a whole. The

company has much to be proud of. It has built many of the most sustainable buildings in Hong Kong, has one of the lowest accident rates, has been recognised as a valuable training partner, and received the Grand Award at the Hong Kong Management Association Sustainability Awards 2017. In Singapore, recent highlights include receiving the Building and Construction Authority’s highest award – STAR Champion – in recognition of “exemplary green and gracious performance” in its projects.

Such has been Gammon’s focus on improving the sustainability of its operations that, by 2017, it had already achieved many of the goals set in its 2020 Sustainability Roadmap. Given these achievements and new initiatives in the industry, the company chose to refresh its sustainability strategy with a new focus and targets that look to 2025 and beyond.

“As a leader in the construction industry, we believe it is part of our responsibility to bring in new ideas and try to influence the industry,” says Chief Executive Thomas Ho. “Acting sustainably – improving safety, reducing waste and caring for our employees and the community – also makes good business sense.”

Gammon does not treat sustainability and business operations separately. It is committed to operating a socially responsible business that deliv-ers projects to the satisfaction of its client, while minimising negative impacts on, and creating positive change for society and the environment.

Responsible Growth – 25 by 25Entitled “Responsible Growth – 25 by 25”, Gammon’s new sustainability strategy sets a number of targets based on 25 per cent improvements by the year 2025 in four focus areas: people, safety, the value chain and the environment.

Safety – Zero Harm

The company’s long-established intent is to ensure zero harm to anyone on its sites or premises by mitigating risks at the earliest stage. Its key 2025 target is to reduce the number of reportable accidents on site by 25 per cent by undertaking more modular, standardised, mechanised and off-site construction methods. This will also reduce the risk of heatstroke from climate change-induced warming.

“Modern methods of construction such as modularisation, where work is taken off site and carried out in safer factory-controlled conditions before being installed in ‘modules’ on site, provides numerous safety benefits,” says Executive Director Gilbert Tsang. “In the factory, workers are protected from hazards caused by bad weather and there is far less construction traffic. On site, congestion and the need to work at height is reduced. Taking more work off-site definitely provides better protection to our workforce and is being widely embraced internationally.”

In fact, off-site construction also has a key role to play in achieving the desired 25 per cent improvements in Gammon’s other two focus areas: the environment and the value chain.

Gammon will be contributing to six of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as part of its new sustainability strategy.

transformation are an essential and integral part of the strategy and, in response to the United Nations’ call for more businesses to support its global goals, Gammon has also selected six Sustainable Development Goals it believes it can best contribute to.

So what exactly do the 25 per cent improvements consist of? Under each of the four focus areas, Gammon has set a range of objectives with actions and numerical targets to be achieved by the year 2025.

People – Caring

Driven by a fundamental desire to care for its employees and the community, the strategy’s people-focus area includes targets such as a 25 per cent increase in the number of workers who have been upskilled and the number who are multi-skilled and a 25 per cent decrease in staff turnover in the first year of joining by enhancing on-boarding experience and mentoring.

“With the continuing labour shortage, we must work harder to increase employee retention and attract new people into the industry, as well as care for their wellbeing and give them multiple and new skill sets,” says Executive Director Edmond Lai. “Expanding training opportunities and improving working conditions will be integral to this.”

Further targets include monitoring and improving staff happiness, increasing volunteer hours per person on activities that benefit the community and creating employment opportunities for the economically disadvantaged and marginal social groups.

Environment– Zero Waste

The company’s aspiration is for zero waste in all its forms – energy, water and resources – and its key target for 2025 is a 25 per cent reduction in carbon intensity, with matching reductions in landfill (or incinerator) disposal, energy and water intensity and an increase in renewable energy. Many of these targets will be met by optimising off-site construction methods such modularisation and prefabrication that reduce waste due to their factory-controlled processes, as well as increase the potential for recycling.

Gammon is already taking a lead role in promoting modularisation. Last year, it delivered Hong Kong’s first modular integrated construction demonstration project to showcase the many benefits of this modern method of building (see sidebar).

“We have also commenced Zero Waste programmes for projects and offices to stimulate more aggressive action on avoidable waste,” adds Director Tony Small. “We will be working to increase renewable energy generation by 25 per cent to reduce fossil fuel reliance and carbon emissions.”

Value Chain– Co-Creation

The company views collaboration up and down the value chain as essential and plans to work with suppliers, sub-contractors, clients, architects and engineers to achieve the modernisation of the industry it believes is desperately needed.

“Our targets include increasing off-site construction methods to improve efficiency in resource use and improve safety.” explains Director Horace Chu. “We’ll also be working towards a 25 per cent increase in projects completed using integrated digital project delivery (IDPD), and increasing competence in building information modelling, which also aligns with our key business priorities.”

IDPD involves bringing together the design, planning, management and tracking of the entire project in a digital and collaborative common data environment to ensure its efficient delivery.

The company is also looking to achieve 25 per cent of its procurement spending on recognised sustainable materials and 25 per cent of its concrete production certified or equivalent to the “outstanding” grade of the Construction Industry Council’s Carbon Labelling Scheme.

積極承擔 持續發展 - 25成就25金門全新的可持續發展策略名為「積極承擔 持續發展 -

25成就25」,當中涉及四大核心範疇,包括人、安全、

環保和價值鏈,要在2025年或以前實現一系列改善25%

的目標。

創新思維和數碼化轉型是這策略的核心,亦能推動整

個建造業向前邁進。金門響應聯合國訂定的全球可持續

發展目標,列舉了當中六個可以積極作出貢獻的範疇。

究竟要在哪些方面改善25%呢?金門為四個核心範

疇訂定了一系列目標、行動綱領和數據指標,要在2025

年或以前取得滿意成果。

人 —— 關愛

金門誠意關愛員工和社群,這個範疇的目標,是增加再

培訓員工和多技能員工25%,以及加強在職體驗和指

導,降低新員工第一年離職率25%。

執行董事黎永覺表示:「勞工短缺問題持續,我們必

須加倍努力挽留人才、吸引新人加入建造業、關注他們

的福祉,並為他們提供多種及新技能的培訓。在此,擴

大培訓機會和改善工作條件至為重要。」

此外,金門主動跟進和提升員工享受工作的程度; 鼓

勵員工參與各項社區和公益活動,增加義務工作服務社

群的人均時數;以及為低收入及邊緣社群提供就業機會。

安全 —— 零傷害

多年來,金門堅持要在建造項目的最早階段降低風險,

確保地盤和廠房內所有員工的安全。2025年的主要目

標,是要透過更多模組化、標準化、機械化和工地外預

製方法,把地盤內可匯報的意外事故減少25%,這樣亦

可降低工人在酷熱天氣下工作而中暑的風險。

Strategic planningStrong governance is seen as essential to achieving the company’s sustainability ambitions. In order to more effectively address broader sustainability issues across the business under the new strategy, Gammon has further strengthened its sustainability governance practices by establishing a Sustainability Action Group.

It has high hopes for its new strategy.“We hope our new strategy will decouple

business growth from negative environmental and social impacts and leave a positive legacy for society. This is in line with our company mission which is to ‘build for a better quality of life and living environment in a safe and sustainable manner’,” says Group Sustainability Manager Emma Harvey.

環保 —— 零浪費

金門希望在使用能源、水和其他資源上都實踐零浪費。

2025年的主要目標是降低碳排放強度25%、減少堆填

或焚化、減少消耗能源和水資源,同時增加使用再生能

源。優化工地外預製,透過模組和預鑄生產,能實現多

個目標,特別是在廠房控制生產流程的情況下,可減少

浪費工料及增加循環再用工料的可能性。

金門在推廣模組化生產方面正發揮積極主導作用,

去年推出了香港首個「組裝合成」建築法(MiC)示範項

目,展示了這種現代化建築方法的眾多優點(見另文)。

董事薛東尼補充說:「我們又針對建築項目和辦公室

開展了零廢物計劃,鼓勵同事主動減少浪費。此外,我

們會努力提升再生能源發電量25%,以減少對化石燃料

的依賴和碳排放。」

價值鏈 —— 共創價值

金門認為建造業迫切需要進行現代化改革,在此,整套

價值鏈不同層面的協作至為重要,所以我們計劃與供應

商、分判商、客戶、建築師和工程師等緊密合作,推動

建造業邁向現代化。

In 2018, Gammon completed Hong Kong’s first modular integrated construction (MiC) demonstration project, purpose-built to showcase the opportunities for enhanced quality, productivity, safety and sustainability that can be gained through using this innovative approach to building.

Commissioned by the Construction Industry Council (CIC), the three-storey demonstration building in Kowloon Bay presents MiC through 10 modules representative of rooms found in a typical hotel, hostel, two-bed home, three-bed home and an elderly home.

Working with supplier China International Marine Containers (CIMC), Gammon used an MiC approach to construct 70 per cent of the design-and-build project off site, in CIMC’s Mainland China factory, with only the structure’s foundations, frame and stairwells built in situ. Modules, fully decked out with everything from electrical wiring through to fixtures, fittings and wallpaper, were then transported to Hong Kong for rapid installation on site.

In addition to programme benefits, the factory-controlled process improved quality and generated less waste, created fewer disturbances on site, and provided workers with an indoor environment in which to safely carry out their duties, while protected from bad weather.

董事朱凱威解釋:「我們的目標是透過工地外預製等

建造方法,改善資源運用的效率、安全,以至整個工程

的流程,並期望增加25%項目在建造過程中使用『綜合

數碼建造方案』,同時提高建築信息模擬技術的能力,

這些措施均符合金門業務的優先發展方向。」

「綜合數碼建造方案」是在數碼和通用數據環境中

進行設計、規劃、管理和跟進整個項目,確保能以最佳

效率完成及交付項目。

金門更希望25%的採購開支用於已獲取可持續發展

認證的工料,25%生產的混凝土符合認證,或相等於建

造業議會的「建築產品碳標籤計劃」優良等級。

策略計劃優良的管治是實現金門可持續發展策略的關鍵,為此,

金門成立「可持續發展督導小組」強化相關的管治措施,

務求在各個業務層面有效地處理與可持續發展有關的

事宜。

Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) presented Gammon with prizes in the Innovation and Creativity and Smart Productivity category of the 2018 annual awards. The Award Presentation Ceremony, which included a cocktail reception for all winners in the seven HKAI categories, was held on 11 December 2018.

The Innovation and Creativity Award was given in recognition of the fact that Gammon has long been applying innovative construction and engineering solutions in Hong Kong. Among these is Integrated Building Quality Management, which employs the latest technologies to provide scientific and thorough inspection of new flats and units to ensure they are defect-free before handing them over.

A Smart Productivity Certificate of Merit has also been awarded to Gammon for its E-Docket and Concrete Management System (CMS), which was developed by Gammon. In short, Gammon

oversaw the building of the first concrete batching plant

in Hong Kong that uses the cloud to provide clients with real-time order, production and delivery information

as well as e-dockets for receipt of concrete. The

results: reductions in costs, improved data traceability

and a 95 per cent boost in productivity.

Internet of Things-Enabled Concrete Quality Assurance:

Temperature, which improves the productivity of high-quality concrete, was another commended Gammon initiative.

產力優異證書」。金門是全港首家以雲端科技為客戶提供實

時訂單、生產和交付信息,及電子驗收的預拌混凝土供應

商。這系統有助降低成本、提高數據的追溯性,及提高生

產力95%。

金門另一項備受讚揚的措施,是利用物聯網資訊調控

混凝土的溫度,提供更佳的質量保證,同時提升優質混凝

Congratulations were in order for Gammon at the IDC DXa Asia/Pacific at the unveiling of regional winners of the IDC Digital Transformation Awards 2018 at IDC’s Digital Transformation Summit on October 25 at the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore.

Gammon was named 2018 Operating Model Master of the Year and was one of 13 winners hailed as the “best of the best” and one of the few to be distinguished from more than 600 project nominations region-wide.

IDC DXa showcases the exceptional achievements of organisations that have embraced significant innovative disruptions or made critical breakthroughs in their various industries through efforts in digital transformation (DX).

Gammon Chief Executive Thomas Ho said: “Technology is the key pursuit in our business model. We continuously strive in digital construction and are very proud of this recognition.”

Gammon has pioneered the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in a real construction project-based context. Launched in 2017, Gambot, is the company’s first AI robot. Think of it as a virtual assistant that supports frontline staff in capturing site activities and automating routine processes.

Moreover, Gambot uses AI to analyze data, making decision-making easier, and improving safety and productivity monitoring. It also helps with programme planning and project management. Gambot was subsequently transformed into a platform that enables all users to collaborate through instant messaging.

Gambot also uses Computer Vision to capture and analyse site activities. Through the use of AI, Gambot analyses data, facilitates decision-making, and improves safety and productivity. This has improved Gammon’s safety culture, and over 70 per cent of Gammon staff are now using it. That has led to a more than 10,000 per cent increase in safety submissions, in a resounding display of safety awareness.

年正式推出首個人工智能機器人Gambot,擔當虛擬助手的角

此外,Gambot利用人工智能分析數據、協助制定決策、提

升安全和跟進生產力,又協助規劃程序和管理項目,隨後演變

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) – a platform to promote sustainable construction in the construction industry – last year launched its first Sustainable Construction Awards, and Gammon was a big winner.

At the Award Conference and Presentation Ceremony on Saturday 3 November 2018, Michael Wong, Secretary for Development and Chan Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC, among other high-level officials, were on hand to award Gammon with many accolades.

The awards included an Excellent Award for Construction Manager (Sammy Lai) (top left) and Outstanding Award for Young Practitioner (Tommy Choi) in the Industry Practitioners category, and a Merit for Ocean Park Tai Shue Wan Water World in the Contractor in all tiers (New Works) in the Organisations category. Meanwhile, Taikoo Place Phase 2A, led by client Swire with the support of Gammon, also earned Silver.

Notably, Gammon’s Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link – Southern Viaduct Connection project won Gold for its excellence in practice. It was in recognition of Gammon’s Tree Management and its team of arborists who set up tree-protection zones, and transplant trees when necessary.

It also recognised Gammon’s efforts to prevent marine ecological impacts with its marine pile-cap construction using match-cast precast shell modules and for its team efforts in establishing a connection with local villagers by volunteering to restore the Pak Mong Watch Tower, which had fallen into disrepair, and which was listed as a

Grade 2 Historic Building in 2009 by the Antiquities and Monuments Office.

The new CIC Award recognises sustainability best practices among organisations and practitioners in the construction industry. But in particular it focuses on youth and the industry's upcoming generation. The new award shows the CIC’s continued commitment to promoting enhancements of sustainable construction in Hong Kong.

工隊聯絡村民修葺白芒更樓。該更樓於2009年被

古物古蹟辦事處列為二級歷史建築,因日久失修

而倒塌。

HKCA Construction Environmental Awards 榮獲「香港建築環保大獎」On 19 December 2018, Gammon was presented with the 2018 Environmental Merit Award at the HKCA Construction Environmental Awards at the World Trade Center Club, Causeway Bay, in recognition of the environmental performance at the Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link project.

The Hong Kong Construction Association acknowledged Gammon for maintaining a high level of compliance with environmental regulations, implementing an environmental management system to international standards, as well as allocating a high level of human resources to oversee environmental issues.

Thomas Ho received the HKICM Outstanding Achievement Award and praise for his advanced mindset in advocating

Sustainability award puts Gammon in the spotlight奪可持續發展獎項光芒四射

After a vote by the Business Environment Council (BEC), Gammon’s commitment to sustainability was ascertained with a Bronze in the Sustainable Consumption Award Scheme. The Award Presentation was held on 27 July 2018.

The annual award scheme is held to recognise companies and organisations for their consideration of the environmental and social impacts and their consideration of sustainability in general.

Gammon’s award is a deserved recognition for all the great efforts our staff have made on our supply chain for B5 biodiesel, FSC timber formwork and doors, use of recycled materials and regional sourcing, among many other sustainable work they have collaborated on.

Award given for good workplace practices優良工作場所措施獲嘉許

On 19 December 2018, the Occupational and Safety Council hosted the Good Housekeeping Forum and Award Presentation at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. A total of 216 entries were received competing for the award and Gammon was delighted to be one of the final winners amongst them.

Gammon was presented with a Good Housekeeping Silver Award in the Construction Category for its foundation works for the Hong Kong Palace Museum for West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. We will maintain our efforts in implementing good housekeeping, which not only enhances productivity, but also raises the morale of employees.

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) has appointed Gammon as the management

contractor to oversee the completion of the M+ project and awarded Gammon with the HK$5.5 billion Works Contract (L2) of the Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement.

As part of West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong, M+ is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. It delivers a unique concept in the art-museum world, showcasing everything from architecture to film and photography, and even including displays that most museums overlook, such as animation and video games.

During the construction of the M+ building’s steel structure, Gammon erected five 2,100-tonne mega trusses with spans up to 60m. To facilitate execution of the works, the concept of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) was implemented to enhance productivity and reduce construction waste. It was an approach that won Gold in the Best Method Statement Competition at the Occupational Safety and Health Council Construction Safety Promotional Campaign 2017 and the 4th Year Best Project Award 2017-2018 by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Hong Kong Branch for DfMA in Construction.

Meanwhile, the Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement project neighbouring the M+ project will be a world-class theatre complex comprising a 1,450-seat theatre, a 600-seat medium theatre and a 270-seat studio theatre, as well as numerous dance and rehearsal studios, restaurants, offices, and an information and ticketing centre.

To ensure that the project is completed safely and efficiently, Gammon will adopt an Integrated Digital Project Delivery approach on the contract, for which centralised and shared Building Information Modelling (BIM) will form a key element. In addition to a 3D digital model, a 4D model will be completed to create a simulation of the project to optimise and refine construction methodology. Innovative methods of as-built data capture such as drone surveys, laser scans and 3D photos linked to plan drawings will also be deployed.

Gammon plans to use modularisation, off-site manufacture and standardisation to maximise consistency, efficiency, precision and quality, as well as reduce the number of operations taking place on-site for improved safety. The project will be supported by Gammon’s in-house companies of Gammon E&M for electrical and mechanical works, Lambeth Associates for temporary works, Entasis for curtain wall, IntoG for interior fit out and architectural builders’ works and finishes, Pristine for steel manufacture, and Gammon Concrete for concrete supply.

The M+ project targets to be completed by the end of 2019. With

its work on the design development in progress, the Lyric Theatre Complex’s site work is expected to begin in late 2019 and be completed by the end of 2023.

在建造M+大樓期間,金門豎立了五支各

重2,100噸、跨距達60米的巨型桁架。為使施

工順利,金門靈活運用簡化製造及裝配過程

的設計(DfMA),以提升生產力和減少建築廢

料。這建造方案贏得職業安全健康局「建造業

安全推廣活動2017 — 最佳施工方案金獎」,

以及機械工程師學會香港分會的第四屆「最佳

項目獎」(2017-2018年度)。

此外,演藝綜合劇場及地庫延伸部分毗鄰

M+項目,落成後將成為世界級的演藝綜合場

地,備有一個共1,450個座位的演藝劇場、一

個600個座位的中型劇場,及一個270個座位

的小劇場,還有多間舞蹈和排練室、餐廳、

辦公室、一個詢問及售票處。

為確保建造項目的安全和效率,金門將

在項目應用「綜合數碼建造方案」,其中最關

鍵的元素是由中央集中處理和共享建築信息

模擬。除3D數碼模型外,又會製作模擬建造

過程的4D模型,以優化和微調施工方法。此

外,又會用航拍攝影測量、激光掃描及3D照

片等創新技術獲取施工數據,確保工程按照

原定的設計進行。

工程團隊亦會採用模組建築、工廠預製及

標準化方式施工,以減少工地現場操作,提高

項目的一致性、效率、精確度、質量及安全。

旗下的公司和部門將為工程提供一站式服務,

包括:金門機電負責電氣和機械工程;琳寶工

程顧問進行臨時工程;大師承造幕牆安裝;形

拓負責室內裝飾,原創金屬結構提供鋼鐵生

產,而整項工程將使用金門自家生產的混凝土。

預計M+項目將在2019年底竣工。而演

藝綜合劇場正進行工程設計和規劃,預計在

2019年底動工,至2023年底落成。1

The Gammon Team took four gold, four silver and four bronze medals in the Construction Industry Sports Day and Charity Fun Day organised by the Construction Industry Council. The event was held on 21 October 2018, at the Shing Mun Valley Sports Ground, Tsuen Wan.

Director Patrick Hou joined the 400m Charity Run, while Gammon staff were on hand to support the team.

It was not only an occasion for a fun day but also an opportunity to encourage a healthy lifestyle and caring culture amongst construction practitioners. Even more, the “Construction Charity Run” was held with the purpose to raise money for the Construction Charity Fund.

Walking the walk for charity慈善漫步職安路

On a sunny Sunday on 2 December 2018, Gammon colleagues, their friends and family members in a group of 17 joined the annual Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Occupational Safety and Health Association walkathon for charity at Sha Tin Park.

Gammon was a Bronze Sponsor of the event, which participants described as a heart-warming and uplifting experience for a worthy cause.

Initiated by the association in 2013, the annual walk raises funds with the aim of assisting injured workers and promoting occupational safety and health in various occupations and industries.

Walkathon to Guangzhou 行路上廣州

From 21 to 23 December 2018, Gammon, in coordination with the Hong Chi Association, a Hong Kong non-profit organisation that provides assistance to people with intellectual disabilities, held the annual Walkathon to Guangzhou.

For the past eight years, with the support of Gammon colleagues, sub-

contractors and suppliers, the event has been an enjoyable success and brought the total amount of funds raised to assist the disadvantaged to more than HK$2.29 million.

Thanks to the 30 participants who undertook the three-day, two-night journey this year.

Thousands of Gammon staff, family members and friends from unions, NGO partners and supply-chain colleagues had a great time at the 2018 Gammon Family Fun Day. This year’s theme was ZERO WASTE – BETTER FUTURE. The game booths were great and all echoed the theme. One booth even made

it possible for kids to get the hang of how to operate a crane. The semi-final of the Gammon

Soccer Cup and a friendly soccer match kicked off as well. CC Hau scored four goals in the latter. Lastly,

CSD colleagues won the Gammon Soccer Cup. On top of these, many young stars showed off their talent on the stage. All in all, it was a Gammon Day carried out in the Gammon Way!!

過千位金門員工、親友、工會、慈善機構和供應商的代表,一起參與

「2018金門家庭同樂日」。 當日活動以「減廢積福」為主題,各式各樣

的攤位遊戲均鼓勵大家減廢積福,其中一個攤位更設置了一輛「起重

機」讓小朋友一嘗當「機手」的滋味。除了攤位遊戲,大會還邀請多位

董事和工會的代表進行了一場金門足球友誼賽,侯志超在場內大展腳

法,連入四球,而金門足球盃則落入建築資源中心的同事手中,全場

掌聲雷動! 此外,舞台上才華洋溢的小朋友傾力演出,歡呼聲此起

彼落。「金門家庭同樂日」人人盡興,非常好fun!1

Gammon colleagues stole the spotlight at the Central Rat Race on 26 August with their Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

costumes. Executive Director Edmond Lai was present to cheer everyone on and to share the great fun and the good laughs.

The Rat Race continues to grow in popularity since its founding in 2002, and this year’s event again did not disappoint, with participants from various corporations competing in support of a worthy cause. Thanks to the generosity of our business partners, we

raised over HK$160,000 for MINDSET beneficiaries – those with mental health issues in Hong Kong and mainland China.

On 7 October, 46 families gathered at Tsim Sha Tsui pier with Edmond Lai, Executive Director of Gammon, and Wong Ping, Chairman of Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union, to set off on a sea journey to South Bay. Gammon extends its gratitude to the union and our own Frontline Committee for organising such a significant activity.

It was a day of smooth seas and blue sky, and after lunch, some headed to the beach by speedboat while others enjoyed water

sports or swimming in the sea – in short, a positive-energy Sunday to remember.

Team spirit displayed at Hong Chi Climbathon團隊合作衝上中環廣場

Lap Dog Challenge raises funds for charity 跑圈籌善款Lap Dog Challenge 2018, held on 3 November at the Stanley Ho Sports Institute athletics track, Pok Fu Lam, was once again a huge success, raising over HK$1.2 million for the Lighthouse Club Hong Kong Benevolent Fund (HKBF).

The event saw a committed Gammon team clock up a total of 492 laps around the track over a five-hour period, coming in fourth out of the 10 competing teams. Our enthusiastic runners were Wai Yin Cheung, Barry Lee, Steve Jenkins, William Ngai and CC Wai.

Special mention needs to be made of William Ngai for his amazing performance in the individual category, completing 126 laps covering 50.4km and coming in at third place.

明建會今年再次舉行「跑圈王者挑戰賽」,活動在11月3日假薄

扶林何鴻燊體育中心的田徑場舉行,成功為明建會慈善基金籌得

善款120萬港元。

我們的健兒張偉賢、李照邦、Steve Jenkins、魏漢華和衛

志忠組成一支堅毅強勁的小隊,五小時內在賽道上跑了492圈,

總成績在10支參賽隊伍中排行第四。

魏漢華的表現更是矚目,在個人賽中完成126圈共50.4公

里,贏得季軍。1

Gammon once again displayed its community services and team spirit by fielding five runners in the annual Hong Chi Climbathon on the afternoon of 13 October.

The Gammon team climbed 75

floors, covering 1,688 steps, to reach the top of Central Plaza in 8 mins 45 seconds. It was an achievement that won them 1st Runner Up in the Mixed Team Relay. Everyone at Gammon sends them their congratulations.
