Régence
En soi, le style Régence n’a pas d’existence valable, maispermet de donner un nom au mobilier de transition qui voit
le jour entre la fin du style Louis XIV et le début du styleLouis XV.Dans le domaine des arts décoratifs, le style Régencecorrespond aux années 1700-1720. L’ébénisterie et la menuiseriepossèdent alors la noblesse et la symétrie propre au style LouisXIV, mais se sont débarrassées de ses aspects les plus formelset solennels en faveur d’une souplesse et d’une grâce annonçantle Louis XV.
The Régence style has no valid existence but is a convenientclassification for furniture still retaining certain features of the
Louis XIV style and already displaying some that belong to the LouisXV style.In cabinetwork, however, the Régence roughly extended from about1700 to 1720. Régence cabinetwork possessed the nobility andsymmetry proper to the Louis XIV style, but those singular qualities ofgreatness and formal grandeur were gone, and in their place were signsof the supple gracefulness so typical of the Louis XV style.
