We find miss ionary life, evenon a primit ive field, to be largely aplodding rou t ine exis tence .

    Souls pleading for the gospel? Howw e w ish t h i s w e r e t ru e . I nd if fe re n ce isthe u su al res po ns e to the message ofC hri s t .     in Pua saying that Kham Mong hadt aken a public s tand for Chris t andwished to be baptized. We went toNam Mong July 13 and had opportunity to speak to the young man a tlength. He made a very moving profession of faith and was baptizedalong with two others on July 15.S in ce b ec om -n g a Christian his firstproject has been learning to read inorder tha t he m ay stu dy the Bible.

    T h a t same evening in a conversation Khaek sa d I used to fightvery hard against the Jesus way because I thought it would be dangerous for us Khamoo to change ourt rad i t ions . N ow I see t h a t the Chr i s tians are bet ter people an d thei-e is

    no longer so much s ickness and fearin our village. I am thinking of becoming a Chris t ian but w an t to bevery, v e ry s u re f i r s t . I do n o t b elieve in following Jesus when it iseasy an d tu rn in g aside w hen i t bec o m e s h a r d

    Late tha t night Yaum, the thirdformer pei-secutor, sent for us tocome to his home. There , for moi et han an hour, w e t augh t him and hisfamily th e way of Life. Next morning as we left the village Yaum andhis wife came with a parting gift.T he y a nn ou nc ed that they also planto b e c o m e C h r i s t i a n s s o o n .

    Kham Mong w as no t an ideal pupil. Never having been to school hew as n o t used to th e discipl ine ofs tu d y and found i t hard to concent r a t e . However, dur ing his w e e k ss tay he did s u c c e e d in get t ingth ro ug h t he Thai alphabet and a fewpages in t h e adult, r ead ing course.H is f i rs t objec t ive is to l ea rn to r eadso t h a t he can stu d y th e Bible.
