What is it?

�  Open source server software for hosting online meetings, classes, and presentations.

�  Like Adobe Connect, Elluminate, Webex

�  Desktop sharing, document and presentation uploading, whiteboard, chatting, VOIP, and web cam sharing.

�  Work in progress, current release .80

�  Flash based, sorry iOS

�  Server installed on ETS Virtual Machine (Ubuntu), but not like other ETS VMs (RHEL), may become a support issue down the road

�  Employs a simple security model and API, meaning it really needs something else (Custom programming, Moodle, Drupal) as a Front End (i.e. can’t stand alone)

�  For now, we are using Drupal to interface with LDAP authentication and role based authorization

�  bigbluebutton.uvm.edu bounces you to www.uvm.edu/ctl/apps/drupal/

�  Primary Login is by UVM NetID and password

�  Faculty, Department accounts, CTL Staff, a few select others can create meetings

�  Only meeting creator or designee can Start/Moderate meeting

�  By default, anyone with valid UVM NetID can attend meeting

�  Attendance can be limited to select NetIDs, with prior registration

�  Non affiliates can attend or moderate if they know the meeting passwords, set by meeting creator

�  Current BBB Module written for BBB .7; we have .8

�  Thus, .8 Session Record feature not accessible at his time

�  Summer Project: Upgrade to Drupal 7, locally enhance BBB Module, incorporate local changes into Community supported module

BBB Interface: Users Module

•  Shows all participants

•  Moderator •  Presenter •  Moderator clicks on User

Name to highlight, then clicks on Switch Presenter to hand off the controls

•  Users click hand to indicate they have a question

•  Minimize/Maximize window

BBB Interface: Mike and Camera

•  Activate your microphone. Now everyone can hear you. Activation adds your name to listeners window, where you or moderator can mute your mike.

•  Important: you can’t hear anyone talk until you activate your mike!

•  Activate your camera. Now all can see you. Everyone neat and pretty? Then on with the show!
