DEGREE PROGRAMME IN MECHANICAL AND PRODUCTION ENGINEERING
Bachelor of Engineering
Options:
Option of Vehicle and Transportation Engineering, Engineer, 240 cr (4 years)
Option of Energy Technology, Engineer, 240 cr (4 years) Option of Machine Automation Engineering,
Engineer, 240 cr (4 years) Option of Production and Logistics,
Engineer, 240 cr (4 years) Option of Production Economics, Engineer, 240 cr (4 years)
The objective of the Degree Programme in Mechanical and Production Engineering is to train engineers that, in addition to mechanical engineering skills, have a good
knowledge of information technology and product development, basic knowledge of company logistics and expenditures as well as the command of foreign languages
required in this profession. The engineers also have to meet the needs of the people involved in technological applications. The graduates work in diverse positions as experts and managers in different fields of industry.
In the Option of Vehicle and Transportation Engineering the main focus is on vehicle electronics and modern steering, control and safety systems as well as
transportations and logistics in the Nordic region. The main areas of importance are catalyser technology and brake systems of heavy lorries and trailer combinations. A
continuous control work and trouble-shooting is done in one of the most advanced vehicle laboratories in Finland.
In the Option of Production Economics the product and production development as well as business administration are the main focuses. In addition to skills in
technology, emphasis is put on economics and financing, marketing and leadership as
well as management of the different areas of operations in a company.
In the Option of Machine Automation Engineering students are educated to
understand the design, control and operation of robots in industrial production. Expert duties in industrial machine automation projects require versatile engineering
skills, expertise in project work as well as technical and economic understanding. The programme provides the students with excellent skills in product development by utilising modern computer-aided tools such as 3D-modelling and simulation.
In the Option of Production and Logistics a special attention is given to the basics of competitiveness development of manufacturing companies. Focuses of the option
include economical manufacturing of a good quality product, modern construction and use of production machines and systems as well as efficient operation and rational
collaboration with cooperation partners. Basic skills in industrial maintenance and in different fields of logistics complement the graduates' production engineering skills. A project work period of one term in industry strengthens the combination of theory
and practice.
The Option of Energy Technology specialises in thermophysical basics of energy
processes, energy plants and their processes. Focus is also on function, structure and maintenance of steam boilers and power machinery.
The degree programme is versatile and the studies are carried out in close cooperation with different companies of the region and with other educational
organisations. In addition to the basic and professional studies in mechanical engineering, students deepen their professional skills by taking additional studies of his/her own degree programme or that of another degree programme or university/
university of applied sciences. At the final stage of the studies a Bachelor’s Thesis, commissioned mainly by industry, is written. The education prepares the graduates
for team and project work. Good connections to different partner universities abroad offer students also varied possibilities to study abroad.

Career Opportunities
In the present busy industrial environment there are excellent opportunities in the mechanical
engineering field. The position of the technician engineer will involve the application of design
ideas related to the delivery of the prototype and the confirmation that the prototype operates within
the required specifications outlined initially. The technician will be mainly concerned with the
fabrication, operation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the equipment.
Engineers, technician engineers and technicians come together to form an important team which can
design, apply theory in real situations and maintain the performance of complex equipment.
