The Lean Supply Chain: Managing the Challenge at TESCO - Robert Mason & Barry Evan

Présentation ouvrage :

The Lean Supply Chain: Managing the Challenge at Tesco explores how UK multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer Tesco addresses the challenge of managing its supply chains.

The book examines how Tesco has used lean thinking, loyalty and simplicity to achieve its dominant position. It shows how Tesco's senior leadership made a simple but game-changing decision to focus the business on its customers rather than the conventional approach of 'competing with our competitors' and asks whether the approach to managing the supply chain needs to be adapted to deal with current challenges that Tesco faces.

The authors look at how the retailer developed and maintains one of the most effective supply chains in the world. The Lean Supply Chain demonstrates Tesco's most successful strategies through real life examples, drawing upon the authors' deep knowledge of how Tesco has developed and succeeded from both an academic and practitioner perspective. It includes an assessment of how Tesco is dealing with current challenges and market changes, including its successful rollout of online shopping and convenience stores as well as how it is attempting to maintain its position as the UK's largest retailer.

Présentation auteur :

Robert Mason also has a business background, in the main a variety of roles with M&S. He is now a lecturer in Logistics and Operations Management section (LOM) at Cardiff Business School and has led many business research projects with Tesco as a partner.

Barry Evans early career involved a variety of roles in Logistics/Distribution with Watney Mann, Rank Hovis McDougall and Royal Mail. This was followed by roles in Tesco plc including Lean Process Manager in Tesco Supply Chain Development. Barry's role was to understand Lean Thinking and develop ways in which it could be applied in Tesco. Tesco's 'Better, Simpler, Cheaper' approach is evidence of how it has been successfully and sustainably applied. He joined the Lean Enterprise Research Centre at Cardiff Business School as a Senior Research Associate. He has worked on research projects for a range of clients related to Lean and Systems Thinking, Value Stream and Value Chain Analysis.

Designing Value-creating Supply Chain Networks - Alain Martel & Walid Klibi

Présentation ouvrage :

Focusing on the design of robust value-creating supply chain networks (SCN) and key strategic issues related to the number; location, capacity and mission of supply chain facilities (plants, distribution centers) – as well as the network structure required to provide flexibility and resilience in an uncertain world – this book presents an innovative methodology for SCN reengineering that can be used to significantly improve the bottom line of supply chain dependent businesses.

Providing readers with the tools needed to analyze and model value creation activities, Designing Value-Creating Supply Chain Networks examines the risks faced by modern supply chains, and shows how to develop plausible future scenarios to evaluate potential SCN designs.

The design methods proposed are based on a visual representation formalism that facilitates the analysis and modeling of SCN design problems, book chapters incorporate several example problems and exercises which can be solved with Excel tools (Analysis tools and Solver) or with commercial statistical and optimization software.

The Co-creation Edge: Harnessing Big Data to Transform Sales and Procurement for Business Innovation – Francis Gouillart & Bernard Quancard

Présentation ouvrage :

Rapid changes in business along with better informed customers threaten the traditional sales and procurement process. Thousands of sales and procurement people are threatened with extinction, yet all is not destined to be doom and gloom. A new way of partnering between these two roles can, in fact, create significant value for both organizations.

Sales and procurement professionals have a bright future ahead of them if they can respond to six trends that the authors have identified in the business-to-business world. Each trend offers an opportunity to develop a new skill for sales and procurement professionals and adopt a new practice. Because these practices are not yet widely adopted as “best practices”, the authors coin them “next practices.”

These trends include: working together to solve complex problems; organizing problem-solving networks across company boundaries; creating processes for live cross-company engagement; facilitating data driven, cross-company interactions fed by digital platforms; providing new personal experiences for individuals and lastly (and most importantly) creating new sources of value for firms.

If these trends are adopted by organizations, the ability to co-create means providing significant value to both the sales management team at the supplier and the purchasing management team at the customer. With the alternative being that these job functions will be replaced by web-based or channel-based alternatives that will do most of what they do today at a fraction of the cost. Increasingly, there is no middle ground anymore. SAMs and senior buyers will either evolve into high value-added sales and procurement professionals, or disappear.

Présentation auteur :

Francis Gouillart is President and Co‐Founder of the Experience Co‐Creation Partnership (ECCP), a consulting firm dedicated to the introduction of innovation in the supplier-customer relationship (“co-creation”). He works with strategic account managers and procurement managers all over the world, helping them develop relationships that escape the commodity syndrome through the use of data platforms and analytics, with a particular focus on machine-to-machine dialog and Internet of Things technologies and the development of corporate ecosystems. He is author of the seminal Harvard Business Review article entitled Spend a Day in the Life of Your Customers (with Frederick D. Sturdivant, 1994), and also co-wrote (with James Kelly) the bestselling book Transforming the Organization (McGraw Hill, 1995). Strategic Sourcing and Category Management - Magnus Carlsson

Présentation ouvrage :

Strategic Sourcing and Category Management examines how category management works in practice, drawing insight from IKEA. With over twenty-five years' experience of purchasing at IKEA, Magnus Carlsson shares the wisdom gained from devising and executing IKEA's highly successful purchasing strategies.

The text is supported by insightful interviews and case studies, which are compared and contrasted with examples from other leading companies.

Strategic Sourcing and Category Management answers three critical questions: -When is category management a profitable method and why? -How do category teams create real results?

-How can category management be organized and implemented effectively?

In answering these three questions, Magnus Carlsson not only presents the guiding principles behind category based sourcing, he also demonstrates how category based sourcing can effectively be implemented in practice and provides guidance on how to realise the benefits of this approach. Cleverly connecting theory and practice, the book draws upon both existing and new tools, and applies them in a highly practical context. With application spanning far beyond IKEA, this book is an invaluable resource for procurement professionals in any industry.

Strategic Sourcing and Category Management is the result of twenty five years' experience of Strategic Sourcing within IKEA and collaboration with several companies and the Stockholm School of Economics.

Présentation auteur :

Contract Analysis and Design for Supply Chains With Stochastic Demand - Yingxue Zhao, Xiaoge Meng, Shouyang Wang, T. C. Edwin Cheng

Présentation ouvrage :

This book is devoted to analysis and design of supply chain contracts

with stochastic demand.

Given the extensive utilization of contracts in supply chains, the issues

concerning contract analysis and design are extremely important for

supply chain management (SCM), and substantial research has been

developed to address those issues over the past years. Despite the

abundance of classical research, new research needs to be conducted in

response to new issues emerging with the recent changing business

environments, such as the fast-shortening life cycle of product and the

increasing globalization of supply chains. This book addresses these

issues, with the intention to present new research on how to apply

contracts to improve SCM.

Contract Analysis and Design for Supply Chains with Stochastic

Demand contains eight chapters and each chapter is summarized as follows:

Chapter 1 provides a comprehensive review of the classical development of supply chain

contracts.

Chapter 2 examines the effects of demand uncertainty on the applicability of buyback contracts.

Chapter 3 conducts a mean-risk analysis for wholesale price contracts, taking into account

contracting value risk and risk preferences.

Chapter 4 studies the optimization of product service system by franchise fee contracts in the

service-oriented manufacturing supply chain with demand information asymmetry.

Chapter 5 develops a bidirectional option contract model and explores the optimal contracting

decisions and supply chain coordination issue with the bidirectional option.

Chapter 6 addresses supply chain options pricing issue and a value-based pricing scheme is

developed for the supply chain options. With a cooperative game theory approach.

Chapter 7 explores the issues concerning supply chain contract selection/implementation with the

option contract under consideration.

Chapter 8 concludes the book and suggests worthy directions for future research.

Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chains: Innovations and Integral Approaches - Meng Lu & Joost De Bock

Présentation ouvrage :

This book addresses the main challenges affecting modern logistics and supply chains and is organized according to five main themes: supply chain strategy and management, information and communication technology (ICT) for logistics and related business models, vertical and horizontal collaboration, intelligent hubs (e.g. ports and cities) and policy for sustainable logistics.

The key findings presented are based on both extensive research and on business cases. The book examines logistics from a comprehensive viewpoint embracing the entire supply chain. The overarching advanced logistics and supply chain concept at the heart of this book endeavors to contribute to a sustainable intelligent transport system by making it more efficient, cost-effective, safe, reliable and competitive. Specifically,

the book focuses on the need for a variety of supply chain, logistics and transport options, on the potential offered by technological developments, infrastructural and organizational aspects, information flows, the financial and legal domain, harmonization and the complexity of implementation. In closing, the book presents new approaches to the coordination of sound business and governance models.

Improving new product development performance - Andrea Patrucco

Présentation ouvrage :

In most industries, innovation has become the most critical success factor to compete: thanks to the rapid change in technology, shortened product lifecycles and market globalization, executives’ focus on new product development activities has become even more stronger.

On the one hand, the simultaneous effect of (external) supplier and (internal) purchasing involvement into NPD has seldom been tested, and the great part of relevant studies is based on case studies rather than large – scale surveys.

On the other, scholars’ recommendations are sometimes contradictory, with authors exalting benefits of supplier involvement, while others remarking its criticalities.

Within this scenario, the present work aims to investigate the role of supplier and purchasing department onto the firm generation of innovation at the category level; a consistent theoretical framework has been designed and tested using data collected from a survey including 603 companies worldwide.

Présentation auteur :

Andrea Patrucco is Research Assistant in Purchasing & Supply Chain Management at Politecnico di Milano, education consultant and member of MIP Faculty (Politecnico di Milano School of Management). His research focus has been placed on Purchasing related issues, such as public procurement, sustainable purchasing and purchasing driven innovation.

Fashion Logistics: Insights into the Fashion Retail Supply Chain - John Fernie & David B. Grant

Présentation ouvrage :

Fashion Logistics examines the principles and practices behind responsible fashion retailing and cost-effective supply chain management in the fashion industry.

Fashion Logistics assesses the early growth and changes in the industry as well as the drivers of change in today's market. Important forces are driving tremendous changes in the retail industry, particularly in supply chain networks and operations. Manufacturers therefore need to re-think their supply chains so that they are resilient enough to withstand shocks, agile enough to respond quickly to sudden change, flexible enough to customise products, and efficient enough to protect margins. John Fernie and David Grant assess these forces and changes, and how manufacturers should adapt their working practices accordingly.

Fashion Logistics integrates case studies of best practice that demonstrate successful fashion retail supply chains of leading companies such as Benetton, Burberry, Schuh and M&S. The book provides vital figures, tables and mini-cases in each chapter, a discussion question at the end of each mini-case, references and suggested readings.

Présentation auteur :

John Fernie is Emeritus Professor of Retail Marketing at Heriot-Watt University. He was previously Professor of Retailing & Logistics and also Director of the Institute for Retail Studies at the University of Stirling. He has written and contributed to numerous textbooks and papers on retail management, especially in the field of retail logistics. Complexity Management With the K-method - Donald Kossmann & Daniel Kossmann

Présentation ouvrage :

The book describes the K-Method which has been developed by the authors. The purpose of the K-Method is to negotiate and administrate a complex portfolio of customised materials, all belonging to the same purchasing group (e.g. labels).

The underlying idea is to agree prices for specification features, instead of giving each material an individual price based on its unique specification. By doing so, a price formula will be agreed between the buyer and supplier which even defines prices of future materials with any kind of specification.

Présentation auteur :

Donald Kossmann, received his Master in Computer Science (Dipl.-Inform.) from the University of Karlsruhe in 1991. He completed his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) at the RWTH Aachen and his habilitation at the University of Passau. Role of Purchasing in New Product Development - Sidney Folbaum

Présentation ouvrage :

Innovation is the most efficient strategy to ensure to a company strong growth. To realise innovations quickly and efficiently, innovative companies need to cooperate with suppliers who know better than anybody else does what they buy, the new trends and technologies, risks and opportunities of the market.

What information do companies get from them? Suppliers must be involved in NPD to transform purchasing from operational efficiency to a source of competitive advantage.

Building trust in relationships is also a vital matter to leverage suppliers. This book gives a definition of the concept as well as a process to assess

and to build customer-supplier trust. We will insist on the key points to make purchasing integration in NPD a success: create a good process where buyers are involved very early, manage your strategic suppliers with trust, introduce a win-win mindset and long term relationships.

Skilled staffs are also required, buyers involved in NPD should be engineers so that they will be more credible when discussing with marketing and the design office.

Présentation auteur :

Sidney Folbaum is married and has two daughters. After studies in Food Industries and one year at HEC Business School, he starts his career within the purchasing function in FMCG and QSR companies. During the first 12 years, he will evolve in different positions and has been involved in sourcing strategies and innovation processes.

Successful Supply Chain Vendor Compliance - Norman Katz

Présentation ouvrage :

Successful Supply Chain Vendor Compliance explains the technical, process and cultural elements that go into a successful compliance program.

Even the largest companies find managing vendors a daunting task. If you get it wrong then you risk inadvertently penalizing potentially valuable suppliers with misguided, overly bureaucratic or costly processes. Worse the burdens placed on the vendors backfires on the customer entity itself as the customer is subjected to the increased operational costs of managing the ramifications of the ill-conceived or poorly implemented requirement through the vendor community, driving up its own operational costs and increasing frustrations for all, straining the

customer-vendor relationship.

Effective compliance programs balance the requirements with the capabilities of their suppliers, striving to educate instead of just inform. A well-run program should help vendors self-implement and control costs, not force vendors to rely on constant communication and increase costs for all trading partners involved.

Norman Katz exposes the weaknesses in traditional vendor compliance programs and identifies the characteristics of well-managed programs that foster beneficial trading partner relationships. He shows how a well-executed vendor compliance program can control and decrease costs by reducing disruptions throughout the supply chain, from the distribution center to the data center to the corporate office.

Competition is fierce, and the right vendor can help you define a business model, react quickly to changes, and differentiate between you and your competitors.

Présentation auteur :

Supply chain vendor compliance has been a central focus in the career of author Norman Katz since 1993. His career roles as a Programmer, Programmer Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, and Information Technology Manager from 1985 through 1995 provided significant background in the core supply chain technologies of Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) systems, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and barcode labelling and scanning applications, and also in business operations across a variety of industries. In 1996 Norman decided to chart his own course and founded Katzscan specializing in supply chain technologies and operational performance, vendor compliance, information insights, supply chain risk management, and supply chain fraud detection and reduction. Norman is also the author of Detecting and Reducing Supply Chain Fraud (Gower, 2012).

Competing on Supply Chain Quality: A Network Economics Perspective - Anna Nagurney & Dong (Michelle) Li

Présentation ouvrage :

This book lays the foundations for quality modeling and analysis in the context of supply chains through a synthesis of the economics, operations management, as well as operations research/management science literature on quality. The reality of today's supply chain networks, given their global reach from sourcing locations to points of demand, is further challenged by such issues as the growth in outsourcing as well as the information asymmetry associated with what producers know about the quality of their products and what consumers know.

Although much of the related literature has focused on the micro aspects of supply chain networks, considering two or three decision-makers, it is essential to capture the scale of supply chain networks in a

holistic manner that occurs in practice in order to be able to evaluate and analyze the competition and the impacts on supply chain quality in a quantifiable manner.

This volume provides an overview of the fundamental methodologies utilized in this book, including optimization theory, game theory, variational inequality theory, and projected dynamical systems theory. It then focuses on major issues in today's supply chains with respect to quality, beginning with information asymmetry, followed by product differentiation and branding, the outsourcing of production, from components to final products, to quality in freight service provision. The book is filled with numerous real-life examples in order to emphasize the generality and pragmatism of the models and tools.

The novelty of the framework lies in a network economics perspective through which the authors identify the underlying network structure of the various supply chains, coupled with the behavior of the decision-makers, ranging from suppliers and manufacturers to freight service providers. What is meant by quality is rigorously defined and quantified. The authors explore the underlying dynamics associated with the competitive processes along with the equilibrium solutions. As appropriate, the supply chain decision-makers compete in terms of quantity and quality, or in price and quality.

The relevance of the various models that are developed to specific industrial sectors, including pharmaceuticals and high technology products, is clearly made. Qualitative analyses are provided, along with effective, and, easy to implement, computational procedures. Finally, the impacts of policy interventions, in the form of minimum quality standards, and their ramifications, in terms of product prices, quality levels, as well as profits are explored. The book is filled with many network figures, graphs, and tables with data.

Service Supply Chain Systems: A Systems Engineering Approach - Tsan-Ming Choi

Présentation ouvrage :

Supply chain management is a well-developed area. The traditional supply chains are dynamic systems which include the forward and reverse flows of physical products and the related information and fund.

However, a service supply chain is different because the real "product" may take the form of a "service" which implies that many traditionally crucial decisions in supply chain management such as product shipping problems are no longer important.

Here, a service supply chain is defined as a supply network that transfers resources into services or servitised products, with or without physical products, to satisfy customer needs. As a result, managing a

service supply chain system requires innovative strategies with new models.

Currently, there is an absence of a comprehensive reference source that provides the state-of-the-art findings on this important topic. It will thus be significant to develop a well-balanced edited volume that includes both theoretical results (from different perspectives) and application cases/studies on service supply chain systems.

This book is a pioneering text on service supply chain systems. It features papers which adopt the systems engineering approach in conducting service supply chain analysis. It includes both theoretical results (from different perspectives) and application cases/studies on service supply chain systems. It will be a good reference book for industrialists and academics who are interested in the service industry, service operations, service management, and service sciences.

Sustainable Supply Chains - Yann Bouchery, Charles J. Corbett, Jan Fransoo & Tarkan Tan

Présentation ouvrage :

This book is primarily intended to serve as a research-based textbook on sustainable supply chains for graduate programs in Business, Management, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Ecology, but it should also be of interest for researchers in the broader sustainable supply chain space, whether from the operations management and industrial engineering side or more from the industrial ecology and life-cycle assessment side.

As firms become progressively more tightly coupled in global supply chains, rather than being large vertically integrated monoliths, risks and opportunities associated with activities upstream or downstream will increasingly impinge upon their own wellbeing.

For a firm to thrive, it is increasingly imperative that it be aware of economic, environmental and social dimensions of the entire supply

chain it belongs to, and that it proactively monitor and manage those. Finding efficient solutions towards a more sustainable supply chain is increasingly important for managers, but clearly this raise difficult questions, often without clear answers. This book aims to provide insights into these kinds of questions for students and practitioners, based on the latest academic research.

We have noticed a recent surge in the number of courses on “sustainable supply chain management” or related topics, but a relative lack of corresponding teaching materials. While sustainability has been widely studied at the level of company strategy and extensive related pedagogical materials exist, there is still a relative lack of materials on sustainability with a supply chain management perspective.

Présentation auteur :

Comment Airbus a révolutionné sa chaîne d'approvisionnement ? - Thomas Riboulet
