It would take approximately $6billion to pay for allundergraduates tuition, whileHarper is now spending over $20billion (and rising) on the militaryeach year.

Why are the people beingforced to pay for the economiccrisis? This crisis was notcreated by young people, or students, or workers. It wascreated by systemic problemsinherent in the capitalist system, which is also environmentallyunsustainable.

All students are being gouged. At almost every college, tradeschool and university campusacross the country, tuition isbeing jacked-up. Students areforced to run up huge debtsentences.

Aggressive privatization oncampuses is also severelycompromising the quality of

education and student services, independent research, campusdemocracy, as well as decientwages and working conditions for all campus workers.

    More working class youth are

excluded from school and leftkicking stones unemployed, or in low-paid work without unionprotection especially youngwomen, aboriginal youth and youthfrom racialized communities. Youthunemployment is far higher thanany other age group.

Big business needs an educatedworkforce. But the corporations arenot willing to pay the bill throughcorporate taxes. Instead, they areforcing students and workingfamilies to pay using credit cards, static wages or shrinking savings.

If they miss a pay cheque, evenfor just a week, 57% of Canadianswould be in financial difficulty with

    rent, bills, groceries, etc.

    Education is a concerns of

working-class people. Atogether, students and the peopcan again pull open wide the dooof higher learning that have beslammed shut in our faces.

More mass mobilizationsand off-campus, sit-ins and striaction are needed. Mass struggand cooperation between tstudents and other movementespecially labour, is the only wforward that can effectively defreactionary governments and waccessible education.

    These student struggles in

Quebec and the rest of Canada areconnected because in Ottawa allstudents face the Conservatives whoare trying to smash basicdemocratic, civil and labour rightswith their agenda of police, prisons, poverty and war.

Take the mass arrests at theToronto G20 summit, or last yearsevictions of Occupy, attempting tosilence dissent.

Take the Tories omnibus attackon human rights crime bill, or their tearing up of Canadas Kyotocommitments. The Harper government are also denying theright to strike, like they did with thePostal Workers.

Last week the Harper Toriesannounced deeper and quicker budget cuts and more major transformations.

Stopping this attack and bringingdown the Harper Conservativegovernment is the first major breaktowards a peoples alternativeagenda.

    The way forward for student
